Detroit Street Soccer will throw a free festival on Sunday, July 19, at the Lincoln Factory. It lines up with the World Cup championship match. Copa Fest Detroit starts at noon and runs through the final whistle of the 3 p.m. title game
Indoor and outdoor viewing areas will let fans watch. The former factory complex at 1331 Holden St. will buzz with activity. Organizers have set up a three-on-three street soccer tournament, pickup games, food trucks, a bar, and a coffee bar, plus performances and a market
“Our goal is to highlight the alternative culture around soccer,” co-founder Ty DeCoeur said “International soccer culture intersects with fashion, music, art, and sport. Similar to how basketball is viewed in America. Think less soccer moms and orange slices, and more hip-hop and streetball.”
More than 15 vendors are expected to sell vintage jerseys, streetwear, and sportswear. This all-ages event is the largest one yet for the group. The group was founded to offer free and informal soccer opportunities in the city
