Samsung is reportedly pushing Nintendo toward a Switch 2 OLED model, but Nintendo is still evaluating the feasibility given the component crisis.
    • 0-20%: Unlikely – Lacks credible sources
    • 21-40%: Questionable – Some concerns remain
    • 41-60%: Plausible – Reasonable evidence
    • 61-80%: Probable – Strong evidence
    • 81-100%: Highly Likely – Multiple reliable sources

    Probable

Rumors about a Nintendo Switch 2 OLED version have swirled even before Nintendo’s latest console launched in June 2025

In April 2024, a Samsung leaker suggested that the unit was actually already in production for a launch slated at a later time. That turned out to be incorrect, but the rumor that Samsung is pushing for an OLED versionpersisted into May 2025. That wouldn’t be surprising, as Samsung supplied Nintendo with the OLED panel for the first Switch

Now, the Korean edition of the business technology website ZDNET has learned that Nintendo is actively evaluating the possibility. They cited information from a few insiders:

    • Insider A claimed that Nintendo is considering releasing a Switch 2 OLED with the resolution upgraded from HD (1280×720) of the Switch 1 OLED model to FHD (1920×1080), adding that if the release of the Switch 2 OLED model is decided, there is a possibility that product development will begin at the end of this year.
    • Insider B alleged that Nintendo is considering adding an OLED panel to the Switch 2 but has not yet confirmed the release of a Switch 2 OLED due to the price difference compared to liquid crystal display (LCD) models.
    • Insider C clarified how Samsung Display will strive to supply Switch 2 OLEDs to Nintendo, but the extent of the price increase for the Switch 2 resulting from the application of OLED is a variable.

Essentially, given the ongoing component price crisis with memory and storage that already forced Nintendo to raise the price of the Switch 2 to $499, the Big N is wary of spending money on an even more expensive model that may not be affordable to many consumers

The Nintendo Switch OLED was highly successful. Despite launching four and a half years after the original Switch, it reached around 20% of the total Switch install base and became a fan favorite thanks to the much greater contrast and perfect colors. Whether the same will be true in this different economic environment is precisely the question Nintendo is currently asking itself

Would you buy a Nintendo Switch 2 OLED? If so, at what price? Vote in the poll and let us know in the comments!

At what price would you buy a Nintendo Switch 2 OLED?

    • Up to $30 more than the base Switch 2
