‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Tickets May Go on Sale Before the Trailer Even Drops

Marvel fans are eagerly awaiting the studio’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 25, where it’s widely believed the company will debut the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday. But, according to a new report from the Hollywood Reporter, tickets for the film will go on sale on Monday, July 20, for Infinity Vision theaters. That means one of two things: either Marvel really is bold enough to open pre-sales before the trailer drops (which isn’t out of the realm of possibility), or we could be seeing the trailer even sooner than we thought.

It would be an unusual move to sell tickets for Avengers: Doomsday before the public has seen any footage—or even images—from the film, but the Marvel brand is strong enough that it might not matter. It’s unlikely that anyone who wants to pre-purchase tickets for Avengers: Doomsday five months in advance is going to be swayed one way or the other by a trailer. This could be a calculated move on Marvel’s part to prove that it can still draw massive audiences based on the brand alone

At the same time, it’s not difficult to imagine a situation where Marvel drops the trailer at the same time tickets go on sale and saves an even bigger surprise for Comic-Con. Based on past SDCC panels, Marvel’s going to have something massive up its sleeve. That could be the Doomsday trailer… or it could be another Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom-level misdirect

THR also reported that the film’s current official runtime is 165 minutes. That’s more than Avengers: Infinity War‘s 149 minutes, and creeping dangerously close to Avengers:Endgame‘s 181 minutes. The trade noted that “while the film’s final cut is unlikely to be locked this far in advance, selling tickets on a set schedule means the film’s runtime can only change by a small margin.”

There’s still a lot we don’t know about Avengers: Doomsday, including its basic plot (outside of the fact that Doctor Doom will be the villain). At this point, anything could happen next week—on Monday, Saturday, or any day in between

Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on December 18
