Watch:Brian Austin Green Says He Led With “Physical Attraction” in Megan Fox Marriage

Brian Austin Green’s perspective on romance was forever transformed byMegan Fox.

Six years after their divorce, theBeverly Hills, 90210alum shared how the relationship changed his perspective when he pursued now-fiancéeSharna Burgess.

“Until Sharna, my ex and I were together for almost 15 years,” Green reflected during an appearance on theI Do, Part 2podcast July 12. “We were married for almost 10 years and I led with physical attraction.”

As Green—dad toKassius, 21, with exVanessa Marcil, as well asNoah, 13,Bodhi, 12, andJourney, 9, with Fox andZane, 4, with Burgess—noted of his romance with Fox, which began in the mid-aughts, “I’d be physically attracted to somebody and then sort of build a relationship around that.”

However, after Green and theTransformersstar, 40, split in 2020, he opted for a different approach when it came to finding love again—especially considering he was, at that point, a single dad of four.

“I knew that I didn’t want to repeat things that I had done,” Green, 52, recalled. “So I went through all sorts of therapy and all sorts of things to really figure out what it was that I brought into a relationship that was just toxic and wasn’t good and wasn’t helping the relationship at all.”

And since he and theDancing With the Starsalum, whom he met in 2020, started their relationship as friends first, it completely transformed the dynamic.

“When you started from a place of a genuine connection with someone, then you’re not so concerned about whether they are truly into you or not,” he posited, “because you guys are already speaking to each other in a very transparent way. Sharna and I talked about our best qualities and our worst qualities together. We sort of put it all out on the table.”

As he put it, “For us, it was pretty apparent then like, ‘Oh, hey, we should stick with us. This seems to be working.’”

When it came to how he approached his past relationships, Green—who previously datedTiffani ThiessenandTichina Arnold—realized it was inevitable he was going to face problems.

“Your approach to a relationship is the best way to know if it’s just a purely physical connection,” he considered. “That’s only going to last for so long that you’re going to get to a point where you go, ‘I can’t stand that other person. So they’re not hot to me anymore.’”

While Green’s romantic chapter with Fox has come to an end, the duo still have a strong coparenting relationship. Keep reading for a deeper look at their blended family…

Swimming In SmilesAfter Brian and Megan split in 2020, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum found love with his Dancing with the Stars pro partner Sharna Burgess. The two welcomed son Zane in 2022, and announced their engagement the following year.

Special OccasionsDespite her commitment to co-parenting, Megan has said it’s not always a walk in the park. “It’s hard to not feel obligated to be with them all the time or to constantly feel like I’m not doing a good enough job,” she admitted to Glamour UK in 2022, “but I’m also separated from their father. So, I can only have them half of the time. That just is what it is.”

The Look of LoveFor Megan, motherhood keeps her grounded. “When I step back, I know how connected I am and I’ve always been and how present I’ve always been,” she told Sports Illustrated Swimsuit in 2023. “I see the reflection of the type of mother that I am in their eyes and in their behavior.”

Musical ProdigyThe hitmaker turns to his daughter for advice on his music. “I trust her opinion more than I trust my own now,” he said on The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2021. “Like, she has her finger on the pulse of what’s hot, or if I’m doing a song and it’s the right one, she’ll confirm it.”

Mama BearIn honor of Mother’s Day 2024, Brian paid a loving tribute to Sharna. “You are an incredible mother and fiancée,” he wrote on Instagram, “and we all love you to death.”
    Instagram
BookwormMegan rarely features her kids on social media—for one very good reason. “I knew when they were very young, I wanted to try to protect them however I could, especially limiting their exposure to the internet,” she told Glamour UK in 2022. “So far, we’ve done a really good job and we maintain their innocence in a lot of ways, but I know I can’t protect them forever.”

Co-Parenting ProsBrian’s golden rule for co-parenting? Picking his battles. “People make a mistake of thinking that they’re gonna do things so the separation doesn’t affect the kids,” he told E! News in 2024. “Of course it’s gonna affect the kids. The only choice you have is how it affects the kids.”
    Instagram
Keeping the PeaceLikewise, Megan makes a point not to speak ill of her kids’ father around them. “I don’t let anything in my energy like that when I’m around my kids,” she said on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2023, “because if I don’t accept and love their father, I’m rejecting a part of them, because he’s a part of who they are always.

Kicking the HabitMGK—pictured with Casie at the Kids’ Choice Awards in 2019—credited his daughter with helping him get clean after she told him she knew when he was high. “That was step one for me,” the musician, who has been sober since August 2023, said on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast. “As a father and as a man, to be the father I wish my dad would have been, I have to break this generational curse for my kid.”
    Instagram
Stepmom SupremeSharna has thanked Brian’s kids for preparing her to be a mom. “I got to test out motherhood with these guys,” she said on the Quite Frankly podcast in 2023. “I got to learn things and grow with them, about parenting and understanding kids … and knowing, ‘Oh my God, I think I can be really good at that.'”
    Instagram
Past Their BedtimeIn 2020, Brian was a celebrity contestant on The Masked Singer. “I was super excited for my kids to watch it with me,” he wrote on Instagram, but “they fell asleep after 15 min.”

More to Come? While Brian revealed he got a vasectomy eight weeks after Zane was born, that doesn’t mean he couldn’t have it reversed down the road. “If we have the space and the ability to, would we love to? I certainly would,” Sharna said on the Oldish podcast in January. “But we do have four young kids in the home and life is very, very busy.”

The Family Grows AgainOn March 27, 2025, Megan and MGK welcomed the newest member of their blended family: a baby girl, who arrived into the world with her own original score composed by the rocker and his musical pals including Travis Barker.
“She’s finally here,” MGK exclaimed in a post on Instagram, “our little celestial seed.”
