As usual, the PlayStation Store has a pretty hefty sale going on, and one of the offers you’ll find relates to a highly underrated open-world action game

It has notes of Fallout with its post-apocalyptic setting, as well as hints of Grand Theft Autofor its vehicular mayhem

Mad Max was developed by Avalanche Software, who would later go on to deliver the critically and commercially acclaimed Hogwarts Legacy

Players are challenged to “become Mad Max, the lone warrior in a savage post-apocalyptic world where cars are the key to survival.”

Much like the films it’s based on, the game revolves around building and customising high-octane vehicles to act as both a sword and shield in a hostile wasteland

The game’s description continues: “A reluctant hero with a survival instinct, Max wants nothing more than to leave the madness behind and find solace in the storied ‘Plains of Silence.’ Players are challenged with treacherous missions as they scavenge the dangerous landscape for supplies to build the ultimate combat vehicle.”

Unfortunately, the game received mixed reviews from critics at launch, but those players are adamant that it’s a hidden gem that more people ought to play

For $5 or less, this Mad Max game is a ‘steal’ according to satisfied gamers

Mad Max is currently on offer on the PlayStation store for $5/£3.99 until July 16, but at the time of writing, you can actually get it cheaper on Steam, where it costs $2.99/£2.39

Its PlayStation discount was shared on Reddit by valkvalkvalk2323, who wanted to know if it was worth picking up, and they were met with an emphatic “yes” from the majority of commenters

One user by the name of RevolutionaryMonth63 said, “For 5€ it’s a steal! Arkham-style combat, heavy vehicle combat, cool customisation, a very well-designed world and high octane action mixed with open world exploration. It’s a super underrated gem, you’ll like it.”

BigCraft5215 added “Yes! Great game! Finished my second playthrough yesterday on PC, and first one was about 8yrs ago on PS4… Still worth it with a lot of fun.”

Unfortunately, a cult-classic following doesn’t guarantee sequels, and Mad Max is unlikely to get a continuation anytime soon

Warner Bros is currently pushing for the next Hogwarts Legacy game, which is also being developed by Avalanche Software. It’s yet to be officially revealed, but when it does, it’ll likely be as big a deal as the first game

In addition to another Harry Potter game, earlier this year, an exciting announcement was made about a brand-new Lord of the Rings game

No title has been shared yet, but it’ll be an open-world title developed by Warhorse Studios. That’s the same company that brought us last year’s Game of the Year nominee Kingdom Come Deliverance II, so we’re expecting big things from a Lord of the Rings spin-off
