While you can play Game Pass games on a variety of devices (including Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles, Windows PCs, Android phones, and select Samsung smart TVs), the Fire TV streaming media player is the most affordable device and works with Game Pass.
Fire TV devices cannot download and play digital games directly on the device itself like you can on an Xbox or Windows PC, instead relying on Game Pass Ultimate’s cloud streaming capabilities. This limits the number of games you can play on Fire TV streaming compared to console or PC, but nearly every game released by Microsoft supports cloud streaming, including Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, Fallout 4 , Doom Eternal , and more, plus tons of third-party and indie games to choose from. Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can also play most Xbox first-party games on launch day with just a Fire TV device, Xbox controller and a good internet connection, including the upcoming Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Ring 》. We’ll start with Fire TV streaming, since that’s the core of the setup here. Assuming you don’t already have one (or another Game Pass-enabled device), you’ll need to buy a Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2nd Generation, or Fire TV Cube, all three from Amazon for up to $40 % Discount.
Note that the first-generation Fire TV Stick 4K Max is also supported, but is no longer sold. However, users who already own the first-generation Fire TV Stick 4K Max can now use it to play Xbox games through Game Pass Ultimate.

The last thing you need is a Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Microsoft is raising the subscription price from $17 per month to $20 per month starting September 12, but if you act fast, you can buy a batch of prepaid Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership cards at a discount from Amazon. With the discount, you can purchase a 1-month pass for $15 each or a 3-month pass for $45 each. These prices are in line with Game Pass Ultimate prices before the last price increase, so you’ll save on your current subscription, too. While this is a great way to load up several months of Game Pass Ultimate at a time, you can also buy a card or two and redeem them later if you don’t want to use them right away.
