Finally, the true star of “SpongeBob SquarePants” – pun totally intended – gets a chance to shine. The “Patrick Star” video game was officially released this week and will be available on Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and PC. As you might have guessed from the title, the game sees Patrick embark on his own adventure. The game is now available for pre-order ahead of its October 4 release, including a special steel box edition for Nintendo Switch and a standard edition on PlayStation and Xbox.

Nintendo Switch players can purchase a special steelbook version of the SpongeBob SquarePants: Patrick Star video game. It includes the base game on Nintendo Switch and a steel bookcase with an exclusive wraparound cover featuring Patrick Star’s smiling mug. This is the only physical version of the game available for Nintendo Switch, and no other console seems to be getting this physical version. However, PlayStation and Xbox players can purchase the standard version for $40.

The “SpongeBob SquarePants: Patrick” video game will also be available on PS5, PS4 and Xbox Series X in a standard edition priced at $40. Not included is as beautiful as the Switch steelbook version, but $10 cheaper.
While Patrick has played a role in several SpongeBob SquarePants games before, such as the recent Cosmic Shake game, this is his first solo adventure in Bikini Bottom. As an optimistic sea creature with a voracious appetite, you’ll explore Bikini Bottom and wake up to cause some chaos. Famous locations like the Krusty Krab and Glove World can be visited, and the game is described as an open-world adventure filled with challenges, treasures, and familiar faces. Yes, it’s pretty much a fusion of SpongeBob SquarePants and Goat Simulator, which sounds like a solid recipe for fun.

The recently released Blu-ray of the first SpongeBob SquarePants movie pairs nicely with Patrick’s video game, and you can pick it up on Amazon for $31 (normally $35). This steelbook cover for the 4K version of the animated classic is basically a replica of SpongeBob SquarePants and pairs perfectly with the steelbook version of the Patrick Star video game on Switch. You also get tons of extra content, like documentaries about how movies are made, music videos, featurettes, and more.
