16 Massive TV Show Errors, Plot Holes, And Inconsistencies From Early Episodes

Details in the early episodes of a TV series often change as the show goes on. Sometimes it’s a change in the set because pilot episodes are often filmed months in advance from the rest of the first season. Sometimes the writers change a character’s backstory once they figure out who they want the character to be. And sometimes, it’s just a genuine error the writers made. Either way, here are some inconsistencies from the early episodes of TV shows that you probably missed:

    1. In Season 1 of Boy Meets World, Shawn is said to have a sister named Stacy, but she’s never mentioned again.

Scene from a TV show with a person on the phone asking if something should be burning, while another person listens with a towel on their head
    ABC

    2. The Hecks have a completely different house in the first episode of The Middle compared to the rest of the show.

Family engaged in various activities at home: reading, eating, and conversing in the kitchen and living room. Casual, everyday scene
    ABC

    3. In the first episode of Euphoria, a portrait of Nate’s family shows that he has two brothers. However, for the rest of the show, we only see and hear about him having one brother.

Top image: Family photo on wall with a red circle around a child. Bottom image: Four people in a dimly lit scene, looking serious
    HBO

    4. In the first season of Riverdale, Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead are stated to be sophomores, while it seems Cheryl is a senior. This is implied because it states that she’s the senior captain of the cheerleading team, and her late twin brother Jason was in the same grade as Polly, who was said to be a senior. However, as the show goes on, we clearly learn Cheryl’s actually a sophomore as well.

    The CW

    5. In the pilot of The Nanny, the Sheffields’ home is slightly different than from the rest of the show. For example, the stairs and front door switched sides.

Three images from a sitcom showing two characters in similar black outfits with fur collars. Text compares their positions relative to stairs and a door
    CBS

    6. In Season 1 of The King of Queens, Carrie mentions that she and Doug knew each other in junior high. But a flashback in Season 2 shows them meeting for the first time at a nightclub when Doug was a bouncer.

Three scenes from a TV sitcom showing characters having comedic exchanges about a past birthday party and a character introduction
    CBS

    7. In the first episode of Living Single, Khadjiah, Régine, and Synclaire’s brownstone apartment is totally different from the one they live in for the rest of the series.

Four scenes from a 90s sitcom featuring a family in a cozy living room and kitchen setting, engaging in conversations and everyday activities
    CBS

    8. On GoldenGirls, Harold Gould played two different characters. In Season 1 he played Rose’s boyfriend, Arnie…

Two image scene: Arnie asks Rose if she'll think about next week. Rose responds she will. Arnie and Rose shown in a doorway
    NBC

…And in Season 5 through the end of the show, he played Miles, a professor Rose dates.

Scene from a show: A character named Rose speaks to a man, saying, "Miles, I thought you were grading papers."
    NBC

    9. The main characters on The O.C. did their junior year of high school twice (seasons 1 and 2) and it was never acknowledged.

Four people stand in a living room, engaged in conversation, with bags nearby
    Fox

    10. In the Gossip Girl pilot episode, Chuck said something about taking his mom’s pills, but later in the show it’s revealed that she died during childbirth.

Chuck telling Nate he will swipe his mom's Paxil in the pilot and then Chuck telling Dan his mom died during childbirth in Season 2
    The CW

    11. Carrie had a sister named Sara in the early episodes of The King of Queens. She disappeared sometime in the first season and was never mentioned again.

Sarah Spooner from "The King of Queens"
    CBS

    12. Topanga had a sister named Nebula in Season 1 of Boy Meets World, but she was never mentioned again, and later on Topanga was referred to as an only child.

Nebula Lawerence from "Boy Meets World"
    ABC

    13. In Season 1, Episode 7 of Riverdale, Fred and FP talk about being in a band together during their senior year of high school. However, in Season 3, Alice states that members of the Midnight Club were no longer friends after playing Gryphons and Gargoyles their junior year.

Series scenes showing characters passing by each other, with voiceover text reflecting on past friendships turned into distant relationships
    The CW

    14. Also, in Season 1 of Riverdale, FP says that Fred started the band in senior year, but Alice also states in Season 3 that Fred gave up music in junior year after the events of the Midnight Club.

Three scenes: Voiceovers narrate a young man's senior year band, life changes due to guilt, and his shift to breaking rocks for his family business
    The CW

    15. ALSO in Season 1 of Riverdale, Fred says that the band he started his Senior Year was called The Fred Heads, but in Season 3, we see that during Fred’s junior year, the Fred Heads had already been formed.

Collage of scenes from a show featuring a band called "The Fred Heads" performing on stage in different episodes
    The CW

    16. And finally, on That ’70s Show, Donna had a younger sister, Tina, that made an appearance once in the first season. Later in the show, Donna was referred to as an only child.

Three scenes from a TV show with Fez, Tina, and Donna. Fez greets Tina; Donna clarifies Tina's age and relation
