Today, November 6, marks the 43rd fictional anniversary of Will Byers going missing in Hawkins, Indiana, in 1983 and triggering the events of Stranger Things. To celebrate, Netflix has <a href="https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/other-worlds-a-stranger-things-adventure-live-action-spinoff-release-date-news” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>announced a new Stranger Things live-action spinoff series, Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure, coming in 2028.Set in 1950s Marion, Nevada, Other Worlds will take place just four years before theStranger Things: The First Shadowstage play and 30 years before the events of the animated spinoff show Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.
The Duffer brothers and writer Kate Trefry, co-executive producers of Stranger Things, will return for the project. “We’ve been dreaming of Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure for many years now, and to see it become a reality is surreal and exhilarating,” Matt and Ross Duffer said in a statement teasing a new setting, heroes, and villains.
This time last year, fans were gearing up for the first volume of Stranger Things’s final season, which debuted as the second-most-watched premiere for a Netflix series ever, behind Squid Game season two. The series-finale episode, which dropped on New Year’s Eve on Netflix and also got a theatrical release, felt rushed with anti-climactic battles and unresolved plot points, leading some fans to theorize that a second surprise series-finale episode was on its way, but no such bonus episode materialized. Maybe Other Worlds will redeem the franchise with the power of doo-wop.
