Bill Skarsgård has revealed that he’s brought his scariest characters home, but they only show up when his kids step out of line.
On a new episode of Happy Sad Confused, host Josh Horowitz asked, “Have they heard you do Pennywise?” prompting Skarsgård to say that they have. “Yeah, if they misbehave,” he said.
Then, Skarsgård made it clear the clown has company.
“It can slip in, slip out, and then Nosferatu can pop in, you know? There’s a whole colorful bunch of schizophrenic daddy,” he joked.
The conversation, taped before Halloween, also delved into this year’s costumes. Skarsgård explained that his daughter will be a vampire, but then gave his reason for why he wouldn’t be wearing a costume.
“That’s the job, and I’m doing it for free, yeah,” he said.
Skarsgård, 36, shares two children with longtime partner Alida Morberg.
The actor’s Pennywise voice comes from playing Stephen King’s famous killer clown in 2017’s It, 2019’s It Chapter Two, and HBO’s 2025 series It: Welcome to Derry. Skarsgård played Count Orlok in 2024’s Nosferatu.
For all the jokes about monsters at home, Skarsgård told Horowitz he feels “kind of spent” on villains. He also complained that “they didn’t call me about James Bond,” adding, “Come on, man.”
“It would have to be something that felt original to me, that was something that I hadn’t done before. I feel spent with those things. But there’s villains [that] could be really fun in different ways and if it’s the right kind,” he said.
Skarsgård is set to return as Pennywise in the second season of Welcome to Derry, which is currently in development.
