Speaking during a financial results Q&A this week, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said that Pokemon Winds and Waves will be a “crucial release” for Switch 2.
Hearing that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. On all of Nintendo’s platforms, Pokemon titles are right up there among some of the best-selling games.
Furukawa also noted in his comments that Nintendo will do its best to maximize sales of Pokemon Winds and Waves when they launch.
When asked about the impact Pokemon Winds and Waves will have on Nintendo Switch 2 sales, Furukawa said:
“As the business development of the Pokemon franchise is managed by The Pokemon Company – an affiliate accounted for by the equity method – I will refrain from providing specific details. However, Pokemon titles have historically played a vital role in the adoption of our dedicated gaming hardware. Pokemon Pokopia, released this March, has also been a major driver for Nintendo Switch 2 sales.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the original Pokemon Red and Pokemon Green, and The Pokemon Company is generating significant excitement through various initiatives, including the trading card game. We recognize that Pokemon: Winds / Waves – a brand-new title scheduled for release on the Nintendo Switch 2 next year – will be a crucial release as the console enters its third year on the market; therefore, we intend to do our utmost to maximize its sales.”
