    Key Points

    • Jodie Sweetin opened up about some of the financial struggles she faced after Full House.

    • The actress played Stephanie Tanner on the sitcom for eight seasons from 1987 to 1995.

    • Ever since, Sweetin said she’s “learned to exist” both with and without a lot of money.

Full House star Jodie Sweetin is looking back on her time between jobs in Hollywood.

The actress was still a teenager when her beloved TGIF sitcom ended its eight-season run in 1995. Over the subsequent years, she only landed a handful of acting jobs, while also struggling with drug addiction and alcoholism. After she got sober in 2011, she took a job working as a logistics coordinator at a treatment center in Los Angeles.

“I didn’t have ego about it,” Sweetin said Wednesday on the We’re Still Here, Babepodcast. “I didn’t care that I was quote unquote working a normal job. I think other people again were like, ‘What are you doing here?’ And I was like, ‘Paying my bills. Kids don’t pay for themselves.'”

Sweetin has two teen daughters: Zoie, 18, with second husband Cody Herpin, and 16-year-old Beatrix, with third husband Morty Coyle. The actress married her fourth husband, Mescal Wasilewski, in 2022.

“And not like I was ever a materialistic person,” Sweetin continued, “but you learn humility when you are at Target and you’ve got to turn around and, you know, put some s— back, ’cause you don’t have the money on your debit card.”

The Hallmark star said that she “learned to be really happy, and I loved my life.”

She continued, “I was like, I would be fine doing this if this is what I’m going to do, cool. And I just threw myself into being as fully present as I could be and that old you know ‘bloom where you’re planted’ kind of vibe. Like, if this is what it is, then I’m going to make it good, and I’m going to have fun, and I’m going to enjoy it.”

The other option, she said, was to “be miserable” and constantly thinking she was supposed to be doing something else. Besides, being without money and having a lot of it each come with their own problems.

“I have had and I have definitely not had,” Sweetin said, “and I’ve learned to exist in both.”

Sweetin’s acting career — and her wallet — received a big boost when Full House revival series Fuller House debuted on Netflix in 2016. The show focused on her character, Stephanie Tanner, as well as those of Candace Cameron Bure (D.J. Tanner) and Andrea Barber (Kimmy Gibbler) raising their own kids together.

When they were pitching the series, she’d been “straddling that line” between economic worlds, Sweetin admitted.

The situation got so dire, “I had to borrow money the first week I was working on Fuller House,” she said, “and I skidded into my first paycheck with like $190 in my bank account.”

The sequel series concluded in 2020 after five seasons on Netflix.
