As Disney+ original series “The Remarried Empress,” which marks the first foray into the Korean romance fantasy (romance fantasy) genre, has been released, concerns are emerging over the health of actor Joo Ji-hoon, who plays Emperor Sovieush in the drama, due to his complexion.
Disney+ released episodes 1 through 4 of the original series “The Remarried Empress” on the 3rd.
“The Remarried Empress” is a romance fantasy epic that unfolds after Navie (played by Shin Min-a), the empress of the Great Eastern Empire, is notified of a divorce by Emperor Sovieush (played by Joo Ji-hoon), who has fallen for the runaway slave Rasta (played by Lee Se-young), and subsequently demands a remarriage with Heinrey (played by Lee Jong-suk), a prince of the Western Kingdom.
Joo Ji-hoon, playing Emperor Sovieush in the drama, displayed a powerful presence. Following the release of the work, favorable reviews such as “The emperor’s dignity is felt” and “It suits him even better than expected” emerged on online communities.
On the other hand, some viewers expressed concern for his health, noting that Joo Ji-hoon’s complexion appears particularly dark and yellow compared to other actors. However, this may be due to makeup, lighting, or color grading within the work, making it difficult to directly judge his actual health condition based on this alone.
Generally, symptoms such as skin or the whites of the eyes turning yellow can be a sign that raises suspicion of jaundice. Jaundice occurs when a substance called bilirubin accumulates excessively in the blood and can be caused by liver dysfunction or bile duct obstruction. It can also occur in diseases other than liver conditions such as hepatitis or cirrhosis, including pancreatic cancer and cholangiocarcinoma.
Since the treatment method for jaundice varies depending on the cause, it is important to receive an accurate diagnosis when symptoms appear. In particular, if symptoms of yellowing skin or eyes are accompanied by darkening urine color, lightening stool color, or itching, one should visit a medical institution for examination.
In cases where jaundice progresses gradually, the individual or their family may not notice the change. If changes in skin color that differ from usual persist, it is better not to dismiss them as simple fatigue or temporary symptoms.
According to NEWSIS, Professor Lee Kyung-ju of the Department of Gastroenterology at Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital emphasized, “Jaundice can actually be a symptom that allows for early detection and treatment of cancer, so if jaundice is suspected, it is very important to visit a hospital immediately and receive an examination from a specialist.”
Meanwhile, “The Remarried Empress” is released in two episodes every Wednesday and consists of a total of 10 episodes.
