Holding Hands Four Days After “Homeless”
Nicolas Cage held his wife’s hand on a Los Angeles red carpet Wednesday night, two months after his Malibu home nearly dropped into a sinkhole. Page Six reported that Cage and Riko Shibata smiled their way through the premiere of his upcoming movie “Madden,” looking, in the outlet’s words, in good spirits.

Cage, 62, wore a black suit with an orange tie. Shibata matched him without copying him, in a printed dress of orange, brown and blue.
Small thing. Still, couples who coordinate colors have usually talked about the night beforehand. The pair married in February 2021 and attended the premiere of Cage’s movie “Madden” in Los Angeles.
Couple Faces Housing Crisis Due to Sinkhole
Coastal erosion and heavy rain opened a deep hole in the driveway of Cage’s $10.5 million beachfront house in September. Page Six reported the hole was initially 30 feet by 30 feet. It has since spread along the side of the property toward the front door.
Photos obtained by Page Six showed a porta-potty and pieces of a privacy fence swallowed inside. Neighbors evacuated too, and other homes on the street were reported unsafe.
Cage filed for an emergency building permit to pack sandbags against the outside of the house. He also asked for asphalt debris removal to prepare for shoreline installation, plus soil sampling. The city approved all of it.
Cage took over the 4,000-square-foot home in August 2024. The property features a rooftop deck, private beach access, and ocean views. He also keeps a full-time property in Nevada.

Nicolas Cage Discusses Their Current Living Situation
Cage brought it up himself, at LA Comic Con on Saturday, when someone asked about his Halloween plans.
“I’m currently a little bit homeless,” he said. He explained that something had happened to the Malibu house, so he was living in hotels and would miss the normal trick-or-treaters at his door.
Halloween went ahead anyway. Cage told the crowd he planned to take their daughter trick-or-treating around Santa Monica, then watch “The Shining” once she fell asleep.
Hotel room, a costume, a Kubrick movie after bedtime. Nicolas Cage made it sound almost ordinary.
Holding Hands Four Days After “Homeless”
Four days separated the Comic Con comment from the red carpet. In that stretch Cage went from joking about hotel living to standing beside Shibata in front of photographers, her hand in his.
Losing a house tests a marriage in boring ways. Nobody fights about the sinkhole itself. Arguments come from the second month of room service, the missing kitchen, a small child asking where her toys went. Couples under that kind of pressure either split the load or start keeping score.
Neither Cage nor Shibata has said a word publicly about how they are handling it privately, and nobody outside the marriage knows. What the public record shows is narrower. Nicolas Cage kept the holiday plans for their daughter. He described the situation with a shrug instead of a complaint. And when his movie premiered, his wife walked the carpet with him rather than staying back at whatever hotel they are calling home this week.
Showing up beside someone on a hard week is a choice, and they made it in public.
Cage has not said when the family expects to move back to Malibu, or whether the house can be saved.
