Iron Maiden’s Somewhere In Time is getting a comic-book interpretation, with all eight tracks from the 1986 album providing the basis for a new science-fiction anthology.
The band and publisher Z2 announced Somewhere In Time: The Graphic Album on 4 November. Due on 2 March 2027, the book marks the record’s 40th anniversary with stories exploring its distant past and far-flung future.
The creative line-up gives comics readers plenty to get excited about. Kelly Sue DeConnick, whose work includes Captain Marvel, Bitch Planet and Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons, joins 30 Days Of Night co-creator Steve Niles and Count Crowley writer David Dastmalchian. Goran Parlov, known for his Punisher work, is also involved, alongside Leah Moore, John Reppion and Corin Hardy.
Metal fans may recognise another name in Z2’s credits: Vincent Locke, whose Cannibal Corpse album covers have given him plenty of experience putting heavy music into grisly pictures.
There’s further comics pedigree in the introduction, supplied by New Mutants and Elektra: Assassin artist Bill Sienkiewicz. According to comics trade publication ICv2, DeConnick writes the prologue and epilogue, illustrated by Andy MacDonald. A new Adrian Smith interview brings the book back to the record that started it.
It follows Z2’s earlier Piece Of Mind graphic album, continuing the publisher’s approach of building illustrated stories around Maiden’s records. This time, theand ‘Alexander The Great’
