Dafne Keen wasn’t too keen on her chances of beating out Millie Bobby Brown for the role of X-23 in Logan.
The actress, who played the young mutant opposite Hugh Jackman in the 2017 superhero film, recently revealed that she was certain Brown was going to get the role instead of her.
“It was me and Millie,” Keen recalled on a recent episode of the Inside of You With Michael Rosenbaum podcast. “She was filming [Stranger Things] at the time, I think, but [it] hadn’t come out yet.”

The Acolyte star went on to share her admiration for the fellow actress.
“We know each other. She’s so sweet,” Keen said. “She was so lovely at the audition. I recall seeing her at the hotel, and I think we chatted a little bit. At that age, when you see another child, you’re like, ‘Yay, friends!'”
That is, until the pair crossed paths again and realized that they were in contention for the same role.
“We were hanging out at the hotel and then we got to the audition and it was like, ‘Oh. Oh, it’s you,'” Keen continued. “And I remember thinking: ‘She’s gonna book it, like there’s no way I’m booking it.'”

Brown previously opened up about her experience auditioning for one of “the Wolverine movies” during a game of Entertainment Weekly‘s “Lie vs. Lie” with her Enola Holmes costar, Louis Partridge.
“I screentested with Hugh Jackman when I was like, 11 or 12,” she recalled, before revealing that she felt “broken” after completing the audition.
“I felt like I probably didn’t get it,” she continued, “because I think there was someone else that was better.”
Keen would go on to reprise her role as X-23 in Marvel‘s smash hit Deadpool & Wolverineand is set to appear next as Artemis on the upcoming third season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which premieres its first two episodes on Nov. 20 on Disney+.
Brown, meanwhile, would go on to carve her own path, starring as Eleven/Jane on all five seasons of Stranger Things. She has also headlined the Enola Holmes films and is set to star in a new series with her Stranger Things costar David Harbour.
