The original Megan is Missing was released in 2011. It’s a found-footage movie about a teenager’s search for her missing friend. It was somewhat controversial at the time of its release, and it often pops up in online discussions about upsetting movies as more people discover it over time.
The followup is titled Megan is Missing: Evil Never Dies, and it was released over the last two weeks of October 2026. The movie is actually a vertical series made up of 36 chapters, with many of the uploads containing multiple chapters. In total there are ten videos plus a video with credits, and the cumulative run time is about 38 minutes.
The story ofMissing: Evil Never Dies is a meta-sequel. It features the three stars of the original film—Rachel Quinn-Allen, Amber Perkins, and Dean Waite—as fictionalized versions of themselves. The three of them are invited to be interviewed about the phenomenon of Megan is Missing by a “vertical podcaster,” Caleb Wilson (Corey Renfree). But Caleb is an ulterior motive for meeting the cast of the original movie.
Michael Goi, the writer and director of the 2011 movie, wrote and directed this sequel.
