Sunday’s game ended with Denver Broncos fans yelling at their TVs across Colorado, and two of them happened to be Hollywood stars. Kate Hudson posted a video on Instagram of herself and Kurt Russell, her stepdad, watching the last play of Denver’s win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes dropped back on the final play with the game on the line, and Hudson started yelling “Sack him!” at the screen. Defensive lineman Malcolm Roach did exactly that, sealing a 28-24 win. The whole room went wild.
The video has everything a Broncos fan could want. Someone, presumably her fiancé, Danny Fujikawa, is wearing a Bo Nix jersey, people are jumping up and down and high-fiving family members, and there’s a big hug once the game ends. The Broncos shared the clip on their own social media, and fans loved it. “Kate Hudson is a Bronco fan?? Now I’m a fan of her,” one person wrote. Beating Kansas City makes everyone a little giddy, and that apparently includes Oscar nominees.
Newer fans may be surprised, but none of this is new. Russell and Hudson’s mom, Goldie Hawn, built a ranch in Old Snowmass near Aspen in the 1980s. Hudson and her brothers grew up spending time there, and the family still gathers there for summers and holidays. Hudson has said she cheers for the Broncos because she grew up in Colorado. Back in 2016, as the Broncos were heading to Super Bowl 50,she told TODAY she was “a big Peyton Manning fan,” adding, “So when Peyton Manning found his way [to] the Broncos, our whole family was like aaaah!” She also admitted she’s the kind of fan who jumps up and down during games: “I grew up with three boys, that’s what we do.”
She’s still at it. This season, Hudson joined Peyton and Eli Manning on the “ManningCast” for the Broncos-Chiefs game in Week 1, and NFL.com called her a “lifelong fan.” With Denver now 6-2, there could be plenty more living room celebrations.
