MrBeast hired South Park writers for his animated series’ second outing. The project is now streaming for free on YouTube. MrBeast Lab has great talent in the writers’ room alongside a Marvel voice actor involved in production.
The current content batch has about 100 minutes of animated footage across eight episodes. The previous batch, which included the pilot, had ten three-minute shorts.
The second batch of episodes has arrived with far less controversy. The project’s previous launch, the MrBeast Lab collectible toys, came amid serious allegations against MrBeast team member Ava Tyson. The disturbing nature of the accusations ultimately led Tyson to step away from the brand entirely.
Beyond the controversy, the show itself faced fan criticism. Many felt the storytelling was hollow, while critics decried the over-commercialization, arguing it prioritized selling products over telling a story.
How MrBeast overhauled Beast Labs after backlash over its original pilot
MrBeast’s second batch of MrBeast Lab episodes has been much better received. This is partly thanks to the upgraded talent that the team hired behind the scenes. Ben Bjelajac and Michael Cruz joined as showrunners, overseeing a writers’ room that included Jameel Saleem, Lillian Yu, Conor Hanney, Charley Feldman, and Daniel Kibblesmith, many of whom have worked on comedies such as South Park and Bob’s Burgers. Fred Tatasciore, who voiced the Hulk for 15 years, also joined the project.
Mr. Beast also invested $7 million in Season 2, which is roughly the cost of producing one full season of commercial animation. Hiring talent across the globe, the gamble appears to have paid off, as a more fleshed-out story and a clean release window seem to be drawing fans into the world rather than alienating them.
