Duran Duran. Depeche Mode. The Cars. If these kinds of bands resonate with you, chances are you grew up with the New Wave.
It’s an era that still influences modern music and will certainly continue to do so, given that today’s biggest artists often release hit songs that call back to the 1970s and ’80s.
And now, a new docuseries is hitting the streaming world this month that explores New Wave’s origins and the groundbreaking years that followed. Premiering Sunday, November 23 on MGM+, the aptly titled New Wave offers the following synopsis:
“This series tells the fascinating story of New Wave music and the decade from 1977 to 1987 that brought alternative <a href="https://comicvibe.com/halloween-2026-the-celebrity-looks-that-owned-pop-culture/” title=”Halloween 2026: The Celebrity Looks That Owned Pop Culture!”>culture into the mainstream. The four-part series will take us on a journey through the rise of New Wave from its rebellious origins to its influential impact on music, fashion, and pop culture. New Wave defined a generation and reshaped the musical landscape in part by embracing women, the queer community and new technology while in the process creating a legacy that is still influencing us today.”
Famed New Wave radio DJ Richard Blade is featured in the show, and one of the executive producers is RJ Cutler (who directed recent documentaries on Martha Stewart and Billie Eilish).
Richard Blade Names This 1984 Frankie Goes to Hollywood Hit the Best Bassline of the Decade
Back in August, Blade, 70, served as host of the Lost ’80s Live show at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre and spent the evening introducing acts including The Untouchables, Big Country, The Icicle Works, Dale Bozzio and Missing Persons. He filled the spaces between sets with stories, memories and plenty of opinions about the music that defined the decade.
He also had some very specific opinions, including his pick for the best bassline of the ’80s. His choice? Frankie Goes to Hollywood‘s 1984 hit “Relax.” Find out more here.
