5 Best Video Games Like Lies Of P

Out of all the “Soulslike” spin-offs that have been released over the past decade or so, “Lies of P” certainly stands out from the crowd. Not only is the gameplay fluid, crisp, and more forgiving than other games in the genre, but the setting is something that the industry hasn’t really seen before. Being able to take part in a twisted version of Pinocchio isn’t something that gamers get to experience often, and the tough bosses only add to the unique plot.

However, given that “Lies of P” is a “Soulslike” game, there are other titles that offer a similar style of combat and gameplay or uncommon settings and stories. However, finding the right one to play if you like “Lies of P” is easier said than done, as some games feature a more comparable experience than others. Fortunately, we’ve put together a helpful list of the five best games similar to “Lies of P” right here.

    Elden Ring

It feels only right to kick off the list with arguably the most celebrated “Soulslike” game in the entire genre: “Elden Ring.” While it might not be every player’s favorite “Soulslike,” there’s no denying the gravity that “Elden Ring” possesses. It features one of the most intriguing open worlds of any video game, allowing you to explore a variety of different and dangerous regions that all house some of the toughest bosses in all of gaming.

To go up against these bosses, you’ll have to kit out your character with the right weapons and gear for your chosen class. There are plenty of items to find through exploration or killing bosses, and the rune currency system in “Elden Ring” grants you plenty of opportunity to upgrade your character and try out different builds. It’s difficult to describe the sheer scale of “Elden Ring,” as its boss variety, open world, gear system, and weaving story are all beautifully implemented into a masterpiece of a game. Granted, it’s more difficult than “Lies of P,” but that makes the challenge all the more worthwhile.

    Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

Cal Kestis fighting a large creature in a pool of water

On paper, it might seem like “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” and “Lies of P” have nothing in common. One is set in the galactic “Star Wars” universe, while the other takes place in a twisted fantasy world of a classic novel. However, once you start playing “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor,” you’ll find that it has plenty to offer if you enjoyed the core gameplay loop in “Lies of P.”

“Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” isn’t considered a “Soulslike” title, but it does feature extremely challenging boss fights and general combat that requires the utmost precision. You’ll have to rely on parrying, quick movements, and your abilities to escape in order to succeed in the major boss battles during the story.

The game lets the player control Cal Kestis, a member of the Rebel Alliance in “Star Wars” who travels the galaxy in his own spaceship with a crew of other rebels who are looking to take down the Galactic Empire. “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” allows you to travel to open-world planets, meet some iconic characters, complete some surprisingly tough puzzles, and engage in truly gripping combat that will have you feel like you’re playing a “Soulslike.”

    Bloodborne

Thematically, “Bloodborne” is likely the closest game to “Lies of P” that you’ll find on the market. Both games are set in grim and ruined cities that feature Gothic elements and 19th-century architecture. Even if you look past the similar visuals and setting, though, “Bloodborne” is arguably the best overall “Soulslike” from a gameplay perspective as well. While it might be tougher to beat than “Lies of P,” the mechanics don’t take long to pick up if you’re an experienced player within this genre.

“Bloodborne” immediately hits the ground running, throwing you into an impossible combat situation and forcing you to figure out the game’s mechanics for yourself. While the general controls are easy enough to understand, it will take hours to master the various elements of combat. Fortunately, you have access to a variety of mechanics and weapons, including a parry, firearms, and tons of melee options. As with any “Soulslike,” the story takes a backseat to the combat in “Bloodborne,” but there’s still a narrative being told as you travel through the non-linear levels. However, one of the major flaws with “Bloodborne” is that it can only be played on PS4 or with backwards compatibility on PS5, and it’s not available at all on PC or Xbox.

    Stellar Blade

If you’re looking for an easier “Soulslike” that doesn’t punish you at every turn, then you’ll want to take a look at “Stellar Blade.” There are several “Soulslike” mechanics in “Stellar Blade,” such as using campsites to save and regroup, a parry system, and some shockingly challenging bosses, but the game isn’t considered a full-fledged part of the genre due to some of its more lenient elements.

For example, there’s no real penalty for dying, so you don’t lose any currency or character progression if you happen to fall to a boss or other enemy. There are also a set of difficulty options that can make the game easier or harder based on your preferences. However, these features in no way diminish the overall experience in “Stellar Blade.”

It’s a fast-paced action-adventure game that sees you play as Eve, a futuristic soldier who’s been sent to Earth to stop an alien force from invading. The combat is thrilling, often relying on combos to deal damage, and there’s a semi-open world for you to explore and find plenty of collectibles and side areas to get lost in, away from the main story. While it’s not a true “Soulslike,” any fan of the genre can hop into “Stellar Blade” and enjoy its gameplay for what it is: fun.

    Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

The main character in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty fighting an enemy with a sword

“Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty” is one of the more unique “Soulslike” games in the entire genre, as it certainly features the difficulty level and other mechanics you’d expect to find, but it changes up the formula in a number of ways as well. For starters, the game features semi-linear levels that all start you with a certain ranking level, and you need to increase this level by exploring the area in order to make fighting enemies easier. You don’t often see this type of exploration rewarded in “Soulslike” games, but “Lies of P” fans should be able to get behind this mechanic with no problem.

Of course, you’ll also find plenty of common genre tropes in “Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty” as well. The bosses are extremely challenging, with some of the toughest ones coming early on in the story that force you to learn the game’s mechanics, or you won’t progress. The combat mechanics revolve around an in-depth parry system that you’ll need to lean on constantly if you want to defeat any boss, but you also have abilities and melee weapons to deal damage at the right times. From a story perspective, “Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty” can be hard to follow at times, but the exploration and combat are strong enough that you’ll want to keep playing until the end.
