Recent broadcast evening news ratings give everyone at ABC World News Tonight With David Muir, NBC Nightly News With Tom Llamas, and CBS Evening News With Tony Dokoupil something to celebrate. And Tony Dokoupil and his team at CBS, despite being in third place, finally got some good news after getting off to a rocky start early this year.
All three broadcasts charted week-over-week growth in total viewers, according to the latest Nielsen national live+same-day big data and program ratings cited by TVNewser.
ABC World News Tonight stayed in first place that week and even attracted the highest total viewer tally since March 2. From Monday to Thursday of the week of October 19, the program averaged 8.837 million total viewers and 1.198 million viewers in the Adults 25-54 demo, up 6 percent in both metrics over the week before. That viewership also puts David Muir‘s ABC broadcast up 12 percent in total viewers and 30 percent in demo viewers over the same week in 2025.

At NBC, Tom Llamas‘ Nightly News once again ranked in second place that week. The show averaging 6.72 million total viewers — up 1 percent week over week and 15 percent year over year — and 1.107 million demo viewers — up 9 percent week over week and 38 percent year over year — in the three days (Monday to Wednesday) measured for the weekly average.
And for its shows from Monday to Thursday of that week, CBS Evening News averaged 4.626 million total viewers — up 10 percent week over week and 13 percent year over year and 688,000 demo viewers — up 5 percent week over week and 51 percent year over year. As TVNewser notes, CBS Evening News is the only broadcast evening news program with double-digit week-over-week growth in total viewership.
