More details aboutLauren Bennett’stragic deathhave come to light four months later.
TheG.R.L.singer known for her feature inLMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” died by suicide at age 36, assistant coronerJyoti Gillshared during an Oct. 30 inquest at Kent and Medway Coroners’ Court in the U.K., according toMetro.
Gill said Bennett had told her partnerKenny Wormaldthat she was going for a walk around 9 a.m. on May 29, but she never returned home. After using a location tracking app, Wormald, along with Bennett’s dadRichard Bennett, later found her dead in a nearby woodland.
Bennett had been hospitalized in January for what Gill called “substantial psychological suffering” and had “continued to report symptoms of distress regarding the effects of prescribed medication” after her release.
At the time of her death, the musician was in the care of “special mental health services” and had a meeting with those services days before she died
The coroner also noted that Bennett had been diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome, a genetic disorder that can cause developmental delays, learning disabilities and behavior problems, like anxiety and acting without thinking, according to theU.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Following Bennett’s death, her former girl group—which was disbanded after bandmateSimone Battledied by suicide in 2014—shared their heartbreak over losing their “beloved Lauren.”
“Our hearts are broken and we cannot begin to express how much she meant to us,”Natasha Slayton,Paula van OppenandEmmalyn Estradawrote on Instagram in June. “We will forever cherish the love, laughter and countless memories she gave us.”
They added, “Her beautiful spirit touched so many lives, and she will be deeply missed and forever loved. Rest peacefully, sweet Lauren. You will always be in our hearts.”
