It’s interesting to see how collecting diecast cars has evolved over years. Back in 2016, I would struggle to find a way to buy Mattel’s latest premium Hot Wheels models. Now, there’s a fierce competition among emerging dealers to secure as many clients as possible.
I must have worked with 10 different companies in the past two years, and I already know who’s serious about customer service and who isn’t. These days, whenever a diecast manufacturer launches a pre-order, you’ll see a wave of posts on social media announcing the opportunity.
And every collector is free to “subscribe” to the dealer he likes working with the most. One thing’s for certain, I don’t really know that many people who have abandoned Hot Wheels entirely for the “new kids on the block”. I haven’t either, as it can be fun to explore all of the options without being tied up to one brand.
Anyway, before I show you the latest releases from the four manufacturers I’ve been paying most attention to this year, I wanted to tell you about the Hot Wheels x MoMA 1965 Porsche 911 Coupe. It seemingly appeared out of thin air, and I discovered it on Mattel Creations by accident.
It’s a brand new casting by Byran Benedict, and it’s a replica of an actual car that’s on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. While I think both the casting and the packaging look very nice, the asking price is slightly far-fetched for my budget. But you can get one if you don’t feel the same way. We all have a different perspective in life.

The J’s Racing Honda S2000 is one of the most exciting replicas of the Japanese machine I know of, and I recently thought about buying the one that used to show up in Hot Version videos racing down the touge.
I’d also like a closer look at the blue and white iteration, but eBay is currently my only option for it. The GR86 is the other event-special collectible you can find in Hanghzou over the next few days.
I can’t help but wonder if this car will ever become as iconic as the S2000. We’ll know in 10 to 20 years from now. I won’t be going after either one of the two, as I’m currently trying so save up for other projects.

I guess the Pandem Pocket Bunny 34 was born out of the desire to change things up a bit, as there are so many different 1/64th-scale Skylines on the market. I’d say this is still aimed at the adult collector given the price tag, although kids coming from wealthier families might like it, too.
Anyway, you can also hunt for the yellow 32, which seems to draw inspiration from the Pennzoil-powered GT-Rs of old. Looking at the Pandem 620, two things come to mind. Firstly, I can maybe agree that it’s an accurate recreation of the real thing. Secondly, this is the least inspiring livery I’ve seen on it so far.
The Pandem EG6 is pretty cool, though, and you may have seen photos of my Idemitsu-powered one back in July. Let’s be honest for a moment here: there will only be one best-seller in this pre-order. And that’s the RWB 930 featuring the Martini tribute livery. I think I might just add my name to the list on this one although I may have already pre-ordered one of the recent Stella Artois releases.

If you’re going to the Las Vegas Convention Center between the 3rd and 6th of November, you can get either one of the two (or both) of the exclusive sets. Liberty Walk once again takes center stage, with all of the six cars inside paying tribute to Kato-san’s work.
You already know by now that I’m not a fan of the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32) LB-Kaido Works Black, which means seeing three of them in one set does nothing for me.
There’s some diversity in the second package, as it brings together an Abarth 595, a GR Supra and the 180 SX, and I’m actually shocked to discover something like The Boring Concept exists in the first place.

The dealers in my area only seem to want to sell these cars in sets, which is a clear sign of their local “popularity”. There’s a choice of six models, and two of them are Porsches. I’d rather focus on the main deal. The Pandem-tuned Mazda MX-5 (NA) is the oldest car on the list. I’m almost certain it’s different from the Mint Green model we saw earlier this year, as that one doesn’t have a hardtop but features the pop-up headlights.
The Honda Prelude is the only other Japanese car on this pre-order list, and it might be too tame to bring in enough customers. Neither one of the four other collectibles in here should have that problem, especially since the Porsche 911 GT3 R and the Lamborghini Huracan most likely have a dedicated fan base behind them.
Seeing the red Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, I can’t remember if the one I have is an older variation of the casting or the race-spec C8.R. With any luck, I’ll open it in a few weeks and then show you what it’s like. Have you ever seen an Aston Martin Valkyrie sporting a paint job like that before? I believe this is the fifth iteration of the casting, and I always wish we could open the doors.

The latest pre-order list includes six cars, and the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 is the only one I don’t genuinely want for my collection.
I’m stoked to see another Falken-themed Porsche 911 GT3 R, especially since I was there to see the guys driving it for the Nurburgring 24H race in 2025.
We’ve known about this Hobby64 model since circa May of this year, and I’ll be ordering one the moment I wrap up this story.

The Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 is my other favorite on this list, as I’ve followed it closely for several years when I was still in my 20s. It’s part of the Road64 collection, which makes me think it might be faster on my desktop than the Porsche.
We’ve got two rally cars on the list, and only one of them is available in Assetto Corsa Rally for now: the Audi Quattro.
This is a replica of Hannu Mikola’s Rally Argentina 1983 Winner, which means its four decades older than Sebastien Ogier’s Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 Hybrid machine. If I end up buying these two as well I might even try to set up a proper display for them in my office.
