Brunson — a longtime “SVU” fan — and Hargitay — a longtime Knicks fan — have formed a close friendship. They bonded after Hargitay learned Brunson, who signed with the Knicks in 2022, was a big “SVU” fan.
“I was so flattered and thrilled, because I was such a huge fan,” Hargitay said last year on NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”

Brunson said on his podcast, “The Roommates Show,” that he’s always loved “SVU,” adding that watching the show is part of his gameday routine. He’s such a big fan that he admitted to being starstruck the first time he met Hargitay.
Hargitay is regularly seen at Madison Square Garden for Knicks games, and she even took part in the team’s championship ticker-tape parade in June.

The 2026 NBA Finals MVP has also cheered on Hargitay for some of her recent performances. Over the summer, he attended her Broadway show “Every Brilliant Thing,” and last year he went to the premiere of Hargitay’s documentary “My Mom Jayne” — for which she earned two 2026 Emmy Awards.
The two also teamed up for a prerecorded sketch that kicked off the 2026 Emmys, which were hosted by Hargitay, in September. And ahead of her Emmys hosting gig, Hargitay sat down for a “TODAY” interview where she was shown a surprise video message from Brunson wishing her good luck.
Brunson’s “SVU” appearance will come over a month after he hosted the Season 52 premiere of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.”
Mariska Hargitay talks about why Jalen Brunson only hugs her after games, creating her documentary “My Mom Jayne” and how she feels about revealing a massive family secret in the documentary.
