The Lab Press is rounding out its second year as an acclaimed indie graphic novel publisher with a range of new compact portable editions of some of its key titles. For readers who enjoy books on the go, these Portable Editions are perfect for carrying while maintaining the quality fans expect from the publisher.

The first three books in this new format are all from The Lab’s first year of publishing–starting with Super Science Volume 1 by N. Alessandro K. and M.K. Perker; Creatures & Corridors by Brandon Auman and Andrea Mutti; and Essentials Volume 1 by Luke Arnold, Chris ‘Doc’ Wyatt, and a list of talented artists. Each of these titles has been critically-acclaimed and honored with various accolades for story, art and design, including wins at the prestigious IPPY Awards, Storytrade Awards, Foreword INDIES Awards, and the Independent Book Publishers Association Awards.

In the pages of Super Science Volume 1, a mysterious catalyst has caused the sky to turn amethyst for five days. Across the globe, scientists, engineers, and amateurs alike begin achieving impossible breakthroughs, and ordinary people become capable of extraordinary inventions, reshaping the world in ways no one could predict or control. Sergeant Esmerelda Villanueva and her rookie partner Jack Mantle are tasked with containing a steady stream of incidents involving rogue technology, unstable experiments, and individuals who have pushed science far beyond its limits. But as cases escalate and the line between innovation and danger disappears, it becomes clear that this new world isn’t just chaotic—it’s evolving. An original graphic novel blending science fiction, superhero storytelling, and police procedural drama with sharp humor and grounded characters, Super Science explores what happens when discovery outpaces responsibility.

“Super Science Volume 2 arrives in early 2027, so this is the perfect moment to discover, or rediscover, where it all started, in an edition you can carry in your pocket,” says creator and writer, N. Alessandro K. “Science is accelerating at a pace faster than we are. To sit and read a book has somehow become a radical act.”

The Lab Press is committed to continuing its award-winning line of high-quality hardcover graphic novels, and 2027 is no different. Fans will have the long-awaited release of Super Science Volume 2, as well as other top-secret titles yet to be announced.

“Our hardcovers are built to be collected, while the Portable Editions are built to be carried,” says Dagen Walker, Editor-in-Chief of The Lab Press. “Same full stories, same art, but in a size you can put in your bag and read on the train.”

The first wave of Portable Editions from The Lab Press is available in book and comic shops now. More titles will follow next year. Check out a glimpse of what to expect here!

35 Years Ago, The X-Men Ended Their Best Era With Their Most Important Story

    By JamesJuly 19, 20260
