The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is widely considered one of the best games ever released, and its Nintendo Switch 2 remake launching next week on November 5 is set to bring everything that made Link‘s first 3D adventure special to modern Nintendo hardware and turn it up to eleven. Even so, longtime series producer Eiji Aonuma is worried about its release.
“I’m all nervous about releasing the remake of ‘Ocarina’ because I don’t know how it’s going to turn out, I can’t stop thinking about it,”Aonuma-san told AFP during a visit to Paris, as This is a rather surprising statement considering not only that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a very well-known title, but also given what has been shown so far running at a crisp 60 frames per second on Nintendo Switch 2
However, Aonuma-san’s worries could very well be justified. For starters, the remake is a very different style of Zelda than The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom with their full-blown open-world gameplay, so those who never experienced the series before them may not appreciate the older gameplay style of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake.
Still, the game is likely going to feel fresh for a new generation of players, as some of the younger members of the development team, who never played the original, played an important role during the game’s development. “It’s thanks to these young people, by thinking about how to adapt the game in the best possible way, how to make it fun once you have the controls in your hands, that this remake came into being,”Aonuma-san said.

While the longtime series producer may feel worried about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake and its reception, there’s little doubt that Nintendo is confident about the game. Launching only two weeks before Grand Theft Auto VI is something no one dared to do this year, and although the game is not releasing on Nintendo Switch 2 at launch, it is poised to capture the attention of the gaming industry for some time, so there’s no greater sign of confidence than going directly against what’s going to be the biggest video game launch of all time.
