LaLa Anthony has some thoughts about celebrities dating outside the entertainment industry, and she says being with someone who understands the demands of fame can make relationships easier. During an appearance on the Oct. 20 episode of The Crew Has It podcast, the actress explained why dating another celebrity has its advantages, although she isn’t ruling out finding love with someone who works a regular job.

Speaking with her former Power co-stars Michael Rainey Jr. and Gianni Paolo, Anthony acknowledged that relationships are complicated enough without adding Hollywood’s unpredictable schedules to the mix.

“I think there’s pros and cons to both,” she said. “If you date somebody in the industry, you feel like, okay, they at least know my lifestyle, how I have to work. I gotta be on set at two, three in the morning. I’m gonna be on set for 16 hours.”

Dating someone outside the business, however, can introduce another set of problems.

“Sometimes the problem is they might not understand the schedule,” she explained, describing the questions that can arise when an actor works late or spends time with co-stars outside normal business hours.

Still, Anthony made it clear that a Hollywood résumé isn’t required to get her attention.

“I just think it should be about who you connect with,” she said. “I don’t think even when we talk about a type, I just think that we have to be open.”

The conversation eventually turned to wealthy celebrities who consistently date other wealthy people. Anthony explained that those relationships aren’t necessarily about chasing money. Instead, people often meet romantic partners within the professional and social circles they already occupy.

“When you reach a certain tax bracket or money, like, you’re around those are the rooms you’re around,” she said, comparing the situation to doctors meeting other medical professionals through work.

Asked directly whether she could date a man with an ordinary job, Anthony didn’t hesitate.

“Yeah, I could. Yeah, I could actually,” she said. “You could have a regular job and treat me so good and love my family, and it could just be great.”

Anthony also discussed what she wants from her next relationship, emphasizing faith, family, shared interests, and someone who gets along with her son, Kiyan, whom she shares with former NBA star Carmelo Anthony.

The new series is expected to feature Anthony as a crisis manager for professional athletes whose own marriage is upended by her husband’s scandal, forcing her to lean on her closest friends.

As for her actual dating life, Anthony isn’t interested in choosing a partner based on celebrity status or bank accounts.

“For me, it’s about the vibe,” she said. “You can have all this, and we don’t vibe.”
