A popular Mexican television host is under fire after he was captured on camera kicking a flying drone into a model’s face during a broadcast.
In video shared online (below) by the Es Show account, Ernesto Chavana, 58, is seen angrily kicking the aerial object during a segment on the program. The device then flies back and strikes model Isabella Rojas in the face.
Show staff quickly rush to Rojas’ side in the footage and escort her off set while she clutches her mouth, which was reportedly injured.
Es Show‘s Instagram account shared a video showing Rojas returning to set to discuss the moment with Chavana. The caption read, “Chavana will be held responsible for what happened,” per an Instagram translation.
The show posted another follow-up video on Instagram with a caption reading, “Chavana apologizes for severe crash with Isabella,” with the clip in Spanish. Entertainment Weekly could not verify what is said in the clip.
In a since-deleted post after the incident, Chavana teased an upcoming video with Rojas that he said will release at 6:00 p.m. local time, in which “we will clarify everything about the drone incident,” per a Facebook translation.
Fans eventually flooded the show’s comments section on Instagram, criticizing Chavana over the move. One person wrote, “That man should not be on the show. How the f— does he blame the girl when he kicked the drone?”
Another said they interpreted his apology attempt as disingenuous: “He was making fun of the girl the whole time,” the user wrote.
One viewer added that they felt Chavana “has no idea what he could have caused if he had hit one of the sharpeners of the DRONE in [her] eye” after kicking the device.
