Things were kinda heavy for Katy Perrylast summer in the wake of her breakup with Orlando Bloom, but they didn’t stay that way for long.
“I learned how to step back into my purpose,” she told Peoplein September, “and I got the greatest gift from this tour: I got to meet the love of my life.”
You might even say the California gurl found her true north.
When Perry embarked on the Canadian leg of her Lifetimes Tour in July 2025, she received the warmest welcome when she got to Montreal, where she had dinner with the country’s former prime minister Justin Trudeau. And while they didn’t immediately run away and not ever look back, two months later they were kissing on a yacht off the shore of Santa Barbara.
Because while the Ottawa native may not be from a different dimension, he isn’t like the others.

And after they met, Perry recalled, “things shifted.”
“I always wanted this epic legendary love, and I was talking to my therapist about it,” the 42-year-old explained. “Everything in my life is epic, but this is kind of the missing puzzle piece—then it showed up.”

If this sounds like a lot, especially since her relationship with Trudeau blossomed hot on the heels of the end of her engagement to Bloom, she meant no disrespect to the father of her 6-year-old daughter Daisy.
The English actor, who said on TODAYlast year that there was “nothing but love” between him and Perry, is now dating Swiss model Luisa Laemmel. Plus, he has a history of maintaining strong bonds with the mothers of his children.
For instance, after Bloom and Perry had shifted into co-parenting mode, they enjoyed a family outing with his ex-wife Miranda Kerr last September, even capturing the moment with a picture.
“Katy sent me the photo of Orlando and his two exes on the side, me and Katy,” Kerr, mom to 15-year-old son Flynnwith Bloom, relayed days later on The Kyle and Jackie O Show. “We all had such a big smile on our faces. You know we’re one big happy family.”

Trudeau, 54, has been far more demure on his end, the son of towering Canadian PM Pierre Trudeau knowing that the less said about a political figure’s personal life, the better for everyone involved.
Not that that stopped shockwaves from rippling through the second-largest country in the world in 2023 when Trudeau and his wife Sophie Grégoireannounced they had legally separated after 18 years of marriage. They share sons Xavier, 19, and Hadrien, 12, and daughter Ella-Grace, 17, who attended Perry’s concert at Montreal’s Bell Centre with her dad two days after he had dinner with the singer.
But, though he’s been cautious about sharing his feelings with the world, he knew what he was falling for.
They made their red carpet debut at the Tribeca Film Festival in June at the premiere of her concert film Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour—Live From Paris.And Trudeau risked an international incident when he watched her perform during the World Cup opening ceremony before the U.S. played Paraguay—a commitment that required him to miss Canada’s opening match.
“Sometimes supportive boyfriend duties call,” he tweeted in response to an article noting his absence, the rarest of comments about his relationship. “But you know who I’m rooting for to take the Cup.” (That honor ultimately went to Spain.)

And by the time Perry’s movie hit theaters Sept. 2, Trudeau had caught 10 of her most recent 20 shows, so it’s no wonder she feels like she’s living a teenage dream.
“He knows the words, he’s supportive, and he’s in awe,” she told People. “It’s super-healing.”
He also understands what it’s like to have an all-consuming career and the toll it can take on relationships when couples have to spend too much time apart.
“Everyone knows how challenging it is to balance family responsibilities with a job that takes me across the country and working extremely hard,” Trudeau told CBC News in October 2014, a year before he became Canada’s prime minister. There were times, he admitted, when his otherwise supportive wife “hates my job and she hates me for loving my job.”
With his premiership now behind him, he’s had more time to be the wind in Perry’s sails.
Or the gravity that keeps her grounded.
Comparing herself to “a rainbow kite,” she told People, “I fly super high…and sometimes I need to be anchored. So, to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now.”
Plus, she noted, Trudeau “is really heart-centered, and I think that we align in that way. I’m so grateful.”
