Amazon Prime Video will finally release more of Fallout in 2027, but it is not the series we know and love. A reality TV series called Fallout Shelter: The Experiment arrives on January 13, 2027, and one contestant will walk away with a $1 million prize. Announced almost ten months ago, the unscripted competition drops everyday people into Vault-Tec shelters to see who can survive the apocalypse.
Meanwhile, the scripted series by Jonathan Nolan is going strong with its third season currently in production. Here is everything officially confirmed about the new series, the $1 million prize, and what fans can expect from the next chapter of the wasteland, including cast and timing.
FalloutGets the Squid Game Treatment With a Reality Series

Announced almost a year ago in January 2026, Amazon Prime Video has now announced the premiere date for the next step in the Fallout franchise. The Fallout Shelter: The Experiment will premiere on January 13, 2027, with the four episodes dropping on that date. The remaining three episodes arrive weekly, with the finale dropping on January 27, 2027.
The series invites everyday participants to test their aptitude for the apocalypse inside Vault-Tec’s bomb-proof shelters. Contestants face high-octane drills, psychological dilemmas, and morally challenging trials. Only one dweller will come out on top and claim the grand prize of $1,000,000.
The idea seems to build on Netflix’s Squid Game, which also became a viral TV show and then later spun off a reality show with the game’s design. Now, Amazon Prime Video seems to be doing the same thing with one of its most profitable IPs, Fallout. The connection does not stop just there, though.
The creative team behind the show carries serious weight. Studio Lambert, the company responsible for The Traitors, The Circle, and, yes, Squid Game: The Challenge, produces the series. Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the creators of the live-action Fallout show, serve as executive producers. They are joined by Todd Howard, the head of the Fallout franchise at Bethesda.
Season 3 of FalloutIs Currently Filming and Will Be Out Soon

While the Fallout franchise’s next entry will be a reality TV show, the scripted series is also in full swing and will come back sooner rather than later. Season 3 of Fallout is currently filming and was renewed back in May 2025, even before the second season premiered. The time gap between the first season and the second was less than two years.
The cast is growing too. Aaron Paul and Manny Jacinto are among the new faces joining the returning central trio of Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, and Walton Goggins. Prime Video has kept the details of Paul’s role under wraps.
Season 3 story elements remain unrevealed, with game creator Todd Howard saying the creative team is still deciding which parts of the game to adapt
For us on the game and TV show side, we’re writing Season 3 now. We’re having those conversations now of, what are we doing in Season 3 for the TV show and what elements can we bring into our games at that time when it comes out that don’t feel forced or fake.
No official release date for the show has been revealed yet. Star Kyle MacLachlan said the new season could arrive in May or June of next year, pointing to a spring or summer 2027 window. That means that two Fallout pieces of content will be coming out next year.
