    Key Points

    • Sydney Sweeney paid homage to holiday films like Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

    • Sweeney put a provocative spin on the family-friendly classics for the latest campaign for her lingerie brand, SYRN.

    • The ad comes over a month after Sweeney attracted backlash for her risqué video for the sports betting platform Novig.

Sydney Sweeney is once again raising eyebrows with a brand new ad.

The 29-year-old invoked some of the most iconic family-favorite Christmas movies for her latest campaign for her lingerie brand, SYRN. To promote the brand’s upcoming holiday collection, Sweeney paid homage to Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

In the ad, which was posted to Instagram on Wednesday, Sweeney is shown in a cozy sweater eating a big ice cream sundae while watching TV, a nod to Kevin McCallister’s (Macaulay Culkin) luxurious stay at the Plaza Hotel in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

On the television, the Euphoria star is depicted as Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen) from How the Grinch Stole Christmas, carrying a tower of presents while wearing a plunging plaid tank with matching shorts. Still done up as Cindy Lou, the screen switches to a new outfit, which features a modest flannel PJ set with statement buttons.

The TV then changes channels to show Sweeney in a black bra, panties, garter belt, and tights with a ghostly veil, seemingly paying tribute to Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas and Emily from Corpse Bride. She also shows off a red version of the set.

The SYRN ad comes over a month after Sweeney received backlash for a risqué campaign promoting sports betting platform Novig. In the ad, Sweeney is nearly nude as she covers her private areas with various athletic equipment, including balls, shoulder pads, and goalie gear. Throughout the video, she emphasizes that Novig is “just sports.”

Her partnership with Novig sparked outrage, as people accused her of oversexualizing women in sports. Female athletes like sprinter Amy Hunt and gymnast Gracie Kramer slammed the ad. Even Sweeney’s Euphoria castmate Sharon Stone had some harsh words for the actress, saying she should “take responsibility for her actions.”

“We can’t denigrate women’s sports to get men’s attention so they can gamble,” she told PEOPLE in September.

Sweeney is no stranger to controversial marketing. In 2025, she caused a stir after starring in a campaign for American Eagle’s jeans, during which she mimicked Brooke Shields’ iconic 1980 Calvin Klein ad. Echoing Shields, she bragged about her “great genes.” As a white, blonde, blue-eyed woman, the sentiment divided viewers, some of whom thought it sent a pointed message.

Responding to the controversy months later, Sweeney called the backlash “surreal.” Addressing the discussion around her “genes,” she said, “I think that when I have an issue that I want to speak about, people will hear.”

“I know who I am. I know what I value. I know that I’m a kind person. I know that I love a lot, and I know that I’m just excited to see what happens next. And so I don’t really let other people define who I am,” she toldGQ in November 2025.
