SANTA ANA, Calif. (TNND) —Collectible trading cards estimated to be worth nearly $1 million were stolen from a FedEx truck parked outside a memorabilia authentication company in California, according to authorities.
The Santa Ana Police Department said it happened at Professional Sports Authenticator, or PSA, on October 13. The company evaluates the authenticity and condition of trading cards, autographs, comic books, and other collectibles.
Police Spokesperson Natalie Garcia said the truck was unattended at the time of the theft. She said investigators learned that the truck’s lock had been removed and two pallets of cards were missing, while a third pallet had been disturbed.
The shipment included Pokémon cards and sports cards, police said.

“The estimated value of the stolen cards at the time of the incident was $963,000,” Garcia said in a statement. “However, the exact value of the stolen items has not yet been determined.”
Nick Andrews, a card collector near Boston, told The Associated Press the value of what was taken could be much higher.
PSA’s parent company, Collectors, said it deactivated certification numbers associated with the stolen items and alerted marketplace partners to watch for rare and serialized cards that could surface for sale. The company said it has contacted customers affected by the theft and plans to compensate them based on fair market value.
FedEx said the security of customer shipments is a priority and that it is cooperating with police to track down whoever stole the cards. Collectors also said it is working with investigators.
Anyone who has information about the crime was urged to contact the Santa Ana Police Department at 714-245-8665.
The investigation remains ongoing.
