PlayStation Plus drops 5 free games today, includes AAA PlayStation open

PlayStation Plus has gained five free games, adding to its October 2026 line-up. The latest drop includes a major AAA PlayStation open-world adventure and an action game for fans of old-school gangster movies.

These five PlayStation Plus games are for subscribers in the UK, US, and Japan, with those territories still testing a phased rollout.

In all other regions where PS Plus is available, the whole line-up of PS Plus October 2026 games is available from today, October 20.

What’s new on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium?

The new games arriving on PlayStation Plus Extra today, October 20, are Horizon Forbidden West, Mafia: The Old Country, and Mycopunk.All of these games are equally available to PS Plus Premium subscribers too.

Meanwhile, Premium subscribers will also get two PlayStation classics: Dino Crisis 2 and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition.

Which PlayStation Plus games are worth playing first?

Of course, it all comes down to personal preference and perhaps which games you’ve already played. Horizon Forbidden West, released in 2022 for PS5 and PS4, is the biggest blockbuster addition to PS Plus in October 2026 and a sequel to Guerrilla Games’ 2017 hit, Horizon Zero Dawn.

This post-apocalyptic open-world adventure is set in 3041 and sees the return of our outcast protagonist, Aloy, as she fights to save the planet from a powerful AI entity capable of controlling mechanical beasts. As if that wasn’t bad enough, a mysterious blight is also threatening life on Earth.

However, we’d recommend playing Horizon Forbidden West only if you’ve already completed Horizon Zero Dawn and, ideally, its expansion, The Frozen Wilds. Once you’ve finished Horizon Forbidden West, you can continue Aloy’s story with its own expansion, Burning Shores.

Why Mafia: The Old Country is also worth playing on PlayStation Plus

One of the best things about Mafia: The Old Country, other than being a fantastic game, is that it’s a prequel to the entire series, meaning you don’t need to play any of the other games first.

Set in Sicily, Italy, during the early 1900s, this linear, third-person action-adventure follows Enzo Favara, who escapes a cruel childhood and is taken in by the respected but feared Torrisi crime family.

If you love classic gangster movies such as Once Upon a Time in America, The Godfather trilogy, Goodfellas,and Casino, there’s a good chance you’ll love the Mafia series. Once you’ve finished The Old Country, you can jump into Mafia: Definitive Edition, Mafia II and Mafia III.

For old-school retro fans, Capcom’s Dino Crisis 2 is also worth a shout. Originally released on PS1 in 2000, it takes a more action-oriented approach than its survival horror predecessor, much like Resident Evil 3 compared to Resident Evil 2.

This version of Dino Crisis 2 also adds features such as gameplay rewind, quick saves and multiple screen filters. Unfortunately, it doesn’t include PlayStation Trophies.
