Once again, the streets of New York City were filled with Marvel supervillains, video game characters, and horror movie maniacs. And no, we’re not talking about the costumed personalities that patrol Times Square.

New York Comic Con(NYCC) welcomed more than 250,000 attendees to theJavits CenterOct. 8-11 for the event’s 20th anniversary. Attracting visitors from around the world, the event boosted New York City’s economy by an estimated $91 million, according to New York City Tourism + Conventions,ReedPop reports. The annual event is produced byReedPop, a boutique group withinRX, one of the world’s leading event organizers.

To celebrate 20 years, organizers partnered with New York institution Coney Island for its 2026 theme, with sideshow performances taking place on the Community Stage throughout the weekend.

“New York Comic Con would not be what it is today without our incredible community,” said Kristina Rogers, VP of ReedPop US comics portfolio, BookCon, and Star Wars Celebration. “We had a blast celebrating all weekend long with our fans, our team, and our amazing partners and can’t wait to find out together what the next 20 years of pop culture will bring.”

According to Grand View Research, the global comic books market size was valued at $19.0 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow from $20.5 billion in 2026 to $37.2 billion by 2033. The integration of comic book intellectual properties into film, television, gaming, and merchandise has significantly expanded the market reach. Blockbuster franchises from Marvel, DC, and independent publishers have cultivated a loyal global consumer base, with adaptations driving renewed interest in source materials.

Standout moments at this year’s NYCC included a roster of star-studded panels packed with announcements, exclusive previews, and highly anticipated trailer debuts from popular and anticipated series and films including Paramount+’sDexter: ResurrectionandAvatar: Seven Havens, Peacock’sCrystal Lake, ABC’sThe Rookie, Disney+’sPercy Jackson and the Olympians, CBS’Ghosts, and Prime Video’sBlade Runner 2099, with appearances by stars including Nicolas Cage, Paul Bettany, Lena Heady, Matt Smith, Hayden Christensen, and Ian McDiarmid.

Many brands also hosted activations on the show floor or at venues around NYC. For example, Peacock kicked off NYCC with aCrystal Laketakeover including an immersive experience that transported fans to the iconic Camp Crystal Lake in the 1970s, which was inspired by the highly anticipatedFriday the 13thprequel series.

A prequel to the ‘Friday the 13th’ franchise, the series follows single mother Pam Voorhees who has been unable to shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before. When two strangers arrive at Pam’s door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events is set into motion, leaving the townspeople of Crystal Lake wondering: just who is Pam Voorhees? This year, NYCC introduced its first Getty Portrait Studio, which was visited throughout the weekend by stars including Josh Brolin, Cardellini, Alexandra Daddario, Carrie-Anne Moss, Norman Reedus, Gabourey Sidibe, and even NFL star Rob Gronkowski, who was dressed in Doctor Doom cosplay.

The 2026 event also featured a robust slate of programming across five days in the River Pavilion, including a day dedicated to the comic book retail community on Oct. 7, and for the first time fans were invited to attend select sessions as part of the newly introduced Aspiring Professional Program.

This year’s professional programming built upon last year’s success, featuring a broad range of panels for pros across industries, including comics, film & TV, book publishing, education, content creation, journalism, marketing, and more. New programming for 2026 included a series of film industry masterclasses for aspiring film and television professionals.

Organizers also offered a new ticket option this year—entry on Thursday after 3 p.m.—in an effort to make the event more accessible.

The show floor featured over 650 top publishers, brands, and retailers like Bandai, Dark Horse, DC, Funko, Marvel, Penguin Random House, Scholastic, VIZ Media, and Webtoon. Over 500 Artist Alley participants including fan favorites Alex Segura, Ben Percy, Chris Claremont, Denys Cowan, Frank Miller, Jim Lee, Katie Cook, Peach Momoko, Tom King, and more were also on site. Artist Alley is where attendees can get up close and personal with the artistic masterminds behind their favorite comic books, graphic novels, artwork, and creations.

The Northeast’s most talented cosplayers brought their best work to the Cosplay Central Crown Championships qualifier, presented by Krazy Glue. After a fierce competition, Silwen Cosplay took the crown as first-place winner and Regional Champion for their stunning Sakizo Giulietta cosplay, earning $1,000 and a trip to C2E2 2027 to compete in the National Finals of the Cosplay Central Crown Championship.

NYCC will return to the Javits Center on Oct. 7-10, 2027.

For ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ experience, which took place across from the Javits Center, the Paper & Flowers team crafted thousands of colorful flowers, 400 butterflies, two realistic oak trees, and a massive songbird and snake emblem. The team replicated over a dozen types of flowers found within the film’s lush battle arena, including spider mums, thistle, coneflowers, dahlias, hydrangeas, poppies, lupines, delphinium, carnations, tulips, and lotus pods.
