Possibly one of the hottest topics this year in video games has been the proliferation of AI in development.
While gamers don’t really like to hear it from developers, it is happening whether we like it or not.
One executive seems to be fed up with hiding AI use, and has blasted his own peers just to prove a point.
Xbox Business Manager “Happy to Take Hit” So “Hundreds at Xbox Can Stop Pretending They’re Not Using AI”
Over on X (formerly Twitter), Brandon Stirrup, who works at Xbox regarding business strategy, unleashed a tirade about AI use. While we’re used to seeing people condemn AI, Stirrup is on the other side: he embraces AI use, and even showcased a “game” he managed to make.
Stirrup states, “Gaming is the only industry where leaders are afraid to talk about ai. Users want the truth. We’re using AI. Gaming is the only industry slow-walking the transition because users have negative sentiment. Everyone else accepts reality.”
He even adds, “Gaming is the only industry pretending to not use AI.”
Just a few hours ago, Stirrup posted a game he made over the weekend that took three hours, and made a point to highlight that he has never attempted to make a video game.
My little bad game took 3 hours of active work this weekend. I have never attempted to make a video game. Also went to an NFL game with some friends, the park with my daughter, and spent time with family. It was a fun weekend. What if I had two people helping me over the course of a year?
Here’s a recording of the agent testing and iterating continuously. Lag/freezing is due to screenshots so the agent can see the result of the work:

Stirrup said he was using Unreal with MCP, while showing the “creative” process of how he was making the game:

The manager isn’t done there, as he adds, “I love Xbox and Microsoft and I have spent 10+ years proving this. My goal is to get this over with so we can move on as a company, despite the fact that some will persecute me for this: we use AI, just as all companies do in 2026.”
If you think this is something Stirrup tweeted while he was drunk or something, it’s not, as he even mentions that he can get fired over this tirade. “Look if I’m fired tomorrow it will be because I told you the truth that nobody wants you to know. You can make a game with a simple prompt and yes you can make custom, tailored games. Everything you want in a game is right there for the taking, for better or worse…I’m happy to take the hit if it means hundreds at Xbox can stop pretending that they’re not using AI. It’s time to accept and move forward.”
While it’s a given that developers do use AI in making games, I don’t think most people would be against it if they’re used to automate repetitive or tedious tasks. It’s when they replace devs who craft stories, design assets and whatnot, that’s when people are a lot more hostile about it.
Case in point: DICE clearly using AI to develop the latest cosmetics for Season 5 of Battlefield 6. Even their acknowledgment and apology don’t even deny that they used AI.
