SanDisk shares closed Friday at EUR 1,160.00, down 7.2%, as a broad technology selloff swept semiconductor and memory names lower. The retreat had nothing to do with company-specific trouble. Rising bond yields, inflation worries and mounting questions about the scale and financing of global artificial intelligence spending all weighed on sentiment, with profit-taking ahead of the upcoming quarterly report adding further pressure.

The damage over a full week is steeper still: the stock is down 18% across seven sessions and now trades 17% below its 50-day moving average, a gap that reflects collective caution rather than any deterioration in the business itself.

AI Spending Doubts and Chinese Competition Hit Memory Names

Semiconductor companies ranked among the biggest losers of the recent bout of market volatility, according to the Associated Press, as investors increasingly weighed the hefty costs and future funding needs tied to expanding AI capacity. When market participants start questioning every investment wave in blanket fashion, memory makers inevitably get caught in the dragnet.

Specific pressures on the memory segment compounded the gloom. Investors took a critical view of growing competition from China, where reports of technological advances at ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) — which is working on denser memory architectures — rattled the entire industry. Uncertainty over how long existing supply shortages of memory chips will last added to the restraint. Higher interest rates did the rest.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SANDISK?

A Meta Contract and a New Camera-Card Line, Barely Noticed

Strip out the daily noise and the operating picture looks considerably firmer. On Wednesday, SanDisk disclosed an exclusive memory partnership with Meta. The company will supply flash storage products for Meta’s VR glasses launching in spring 2027, including microSD Express cards and USB-C flash drives. A contract with a platform giant of that caliber is a clear vote of confidence in SanDisk’s technology and secures visibility into future product cycles.

A day earlier, the company had announced the market launch of its Guardian Series. The new cards, aimed at dashcams and security cameras, are built for continuous recording and address a stable growth market removed from the cyclical AI hype. The lineup offers storage capacities of up to 512 gigabytes. Together, the two announcements show management methodically expanding the core business — even if the market currently has little appetite for such news.

Insider Sale and the October 29 Reckoning

One filing did draw attention. A mandatory disclosure dated October 2, 2026 showed Chief Legal Officer and Secretary Bernard Shek sold 600 shares. The transaction was executed under a trading plan established on March 4, 2026 in accordance with US Rule 10b5-1.

Hard clarity on the operating reality arrives on October 29, 2026, when SanDisk reports results for the first quarter of fiscal 2027. The management call is scheduled for 13:30 Pacific time. Trading nerves may persist until then, but a major order like the Meta cooperation carries more weight than vague industry fears. If the quarterly report confirms solid demand, the recent pullback may look in hindsight like an overreaction.
