A Kickstarter page teasing the working LEGO PlayStation has gone live, with the full reveal expected in the coming days.
Substance Labs announced alongside the reveal of 72306 PlayStation in September that it was working on a conversion kit to make the LEGO console playable. The team is also behind <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/brickboy/brickboy-the-kit-that-makes-the-lego-game-boy-come-alive” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>BrickBoy, a working Game Boy created using 72046 Game Boy.
With the set having been on shelves for just over two weeks, the five Swiss-based designers have now launched a Kickstarter preview page for what they call BrickStation.
There’s no confirmed date for the Kickstarter campaign to officially launch, but you can head to the page now to sign up and be notified. If you’d rather not, don’t worry: the team here at Brick Fanatics will keep you updated when the campaign goes live.
Kickstarter allows people to pledge money towards a project before it goes into production. If the campaign reaches its funding goal, backers are charged and production can begin. If it fails to meet the minimum target, backers pay nothing and the project doesn’t go ahead. Based on the success of BrickBoy, though, funding is unlikely to be a problem for Substance Labs.
The BrickBoy campaign raised €100,000 in just one hour after launching and has now passed €1 million, with more than 5,500 backers worldwide.
The BrickStation preview page also mentions extra rewards for early backers, alongside a range of rewards and add-ons that have yet to be announced. The price and all the remaining details will be revealed when the campaign launches, but the team has already confirmed that the kit will include everything needed for installation, with the process taking just five minutes.
Better still, the conversion will be fully reversible, so you can turn your console back into 72306 PlayStation whenever you like. The process was more complicated with the Game Boy, making this a welcome improvement for anyone who wants to switch between the LEGO model and a working console.
You can read more about how the PlayStation conversion kit will work mechanically in our previous report.
There’s one thing you’ll need before getting started, though: a copy of 72306 PlayStation. Once the BrickStation campaign launches, demand for the LEGO set could increase, so it may be worth picking one up sooner rather than later. The £139.99 / $179.99 / €159.99 set is available now online and in LEGO Stores.
