A Yelp Elite’s guide to comics, conventions, and collectibles in SoCal | Yelp

From card decks to collectibles and comic books to cosplayers, Southern California is stacked with amazing finds, epic conventions, and a whole lot of community.

Whether you’re a collector, a fan, or just curious, the right spot is out there, and it’s where comic, convention, and collectible lovers come together. Like Yelpers, we come in all ages, and we show up (and show out, just a little bit) to find our people.

I’m an avid comic enthusiast in all wonderful mediums — including some cosplay fun too — and I truly love to geek out throughout Southern California, from San Diego to Greater Los Angeles, plus other fun destinations when life allows.

And as a Yelp Elite All-Star (among the top reviewers in my Yelp Elite Squad!) and the San Fernando Valley and Inland Empire Yelp senior online community ambassador, I know where to look, and I get to share these treasure troves with you.

So join me, bring your inner geek, and let’s find your super crew (and your next favorite collectible) across SoCal!

(Also be sure to click on the section heads to see Yelp Collections devoted to each with even more businesses to check out!)

The wonders of conventions and expos

From my personal local favorite, Los Angeles Comic Con, to some of the largest fan events in the country, like Anime Expo and Comic-Con International, conventions are where fandom comes alive.

Then there’s WonderCon, Comic-Con’s sibling convention. This annual Anaheim-based pop culture sensation blends sci-fi, movies, gaming, and comic books all into one big hub. WonderCon originated in 1987 in the Bay Area and will return to Anaheim in spring 2027, so grab your badges now!

Conventions are also great to enjoy with buddies (#DynamicDuos), which can include connecting with fellow Yelpers and Yelp Elites who love exploring all things pop culture too.

As the catchphrase for the great animated series Young Justice says, “We are all Outsiders!”

    Cosplay all day

We are all outsiders in our own special ways. One way many of us embrace our inner “geeks and freaks” is by dressing up in fun costumes. Many of us do this in <a href="https://comicvibe.com/nft-prices-october-2026-bored-apes-97-below-record/” title=”NFT Prices October 2026: Bored Apes 97% Below Record”>October, but did you know you can do this anytime? That’s the magic of cosplay!

Cosplay blends stylish accessories, performance art, and unique aesthetics inspired by our favorite animations, books (novels and comics alike), TV shows, movies, and games. Inspiration can come from just about anywhere or any time period, even alternate-universe variations. Have you ever seen a medieval Superman? I sure have!

It’s absolutely like Halloween — but all the time! And like a true treat, there are no tricks and you get to show off a bit.

I particularly enjoy sourcing my costumes at shops like Etoile Costume & Party Center in Tarzana. It offers one-of-a-kind finds for trendy characters and excels at helping you build something from scratch or even grab some inspiration. And nothing beats trying something on at Adele’s of Hollywood, where Yelpers boast that dreamy ideas become full concepts from head to toe.

    Let’s talk comicsand collectibles

Comic books are them pen to print and picture to post, they’re powerful tools for the imagination: sequential storytelling through artistic expression, with speech bubbles, inner monologues, detailed dialogue, and plenty of character development

Many Yelp Elites truly dig Golden Apple Comics, an absolute must-visit in Los Angeles. Their exclusive and extensive collection of collectibles, comics, graphic novels, trading cards, toys, replicas, and memorabilia is one you’ll truly appreciate, and their service is above and beyond. It’s near iconic Yelper foodie favorites like the original Pink’s Hot Dogs, Voodoo Doughnut on Melrose, and Mr. Charlie’s – Hollywood.

We all need some foodie fuel, especially when hunting for the newest releases, impulse purchases, and autographed items.

Roll the die on tabletop games

Tabletop games come in a wide variety, and they’re growing in popularity, in homes, at local gatherings, in gaming groups, in dedicated sections at conventions, and at your neighborhood game shop. Enjoy casual, strategic, or role-playing games (also known as RPGs), where you can gather the magic, duel a fantasy beast, power up, and collect.

I love welcoming spaces like Paper Hero’s Games, a comic book, novelty collector, and tabletop game shop. Think of popular series like Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Star Wars: Unlimited, Disney Lorcana, Magic: The Gathering, One Piece, Dungeons & Dragons, and more — they have them here.

Another personal favorite is Geeky Teas & Games in Burbank. Like its name denotes, this great spot specializes in nerd-themed teas, a deep knowledge of games — oh, and they’re also a cat rescue!

Each card, comic, and unique piece becomes part of a collection. “Gotta catch ’em all!” — right?

And maybe you will this season!

So go ahead and grab that new card deck, autographed action figure, graphic novel, and celebrity picture to store in your cave of wonders (OK, maybe more like your shelf of wonders, but no one is judging).

And gear up for an amazing day with the fandom! Build yourself a super suit; map out the must-visits in the convention center; know your local vendors, shops, and eateries so you have plenty of energy to go, go, go; and cruise around your metro — ridesharing in the Ectomobile, if possible.

Whether it’s your first con or your 100th, you’re not alone, so say hey if you see a certain Yelp online community ambassador at Los Angeles Comic Con 2026. I’ll be web-slinging as my favorite Spider-Man incarnation, Spider-Noir!

Visited a comic convention, collectibles shop, or comic book biz without a listing on Yelp? Add the business, and share all those pics, videos, and favorite moments.
