(NewsNation) — New York Comic Con, the annual geek gala in Manhattan, took over New York City during the weekend, eliciting elaborate cosplay and passionate fan debates.
Though dressing as your favorite pop culture character may, to many, signal a die-hard fan, it didn’t stop some of the most dedicated from issuing pocketbook-related warnings.
A guest cosplaying as Terry Bogard from the video game “Fatal Fury” told NewsNation he was most looking forward to updates from the Warhammer franchise, but noted the cost of the enthusiasm.
“[Warhammer is] a very expensive hobby,” he said. “Don’t get into it.”

The video game “Tetris” made an appearance, debuting what could be the coolest way to play the legendary puzzle game. Officials said the event marked the first time Tetris would be available in a car in the US, with demos available inside a Volkswagen vehicle on the show floor.
Joey Elliott, a New York City-based artist, provided makeup to some guests, adding gruesome stitches to one of our NewsNation correspondents.

Special-effect makeup was far from the only transformation on the show floor. During our time, we encountered Nintendo-inspired cosplay, including Kirby characters and a swaggy group of Super Mario Bros. characters, from Wario with a blinged-out chain to fur-coated Luigi.

Jake the Dog from “Adventure Time,” Superman, a long-haired Darth Maul from Star Wars, and a blue Power Ranger named Gary rounded out the cavalcade of characters our correspondents spoke to.
But it wasn’t all comics and video games; one cosplayer NewsNation spoke to embodied legendary creator Jim Henson and his muppet Kermit the Frog, who told us it was his first Comic Con.

“They didn’t even make me get a badge,” Kermit said.
Now the countdown to New York Comic Con 2027 begins, with the next event set for the Javits Center in Manhattan starting on Oct. 7, 2027.
