Milan Mini-Con to bring gaming, cosplay to downtown

A pop culture festival featuring gaming, cosplay and local artists will take over downtown Milan on July 18
The event, known as Milan Mini-Con, runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and offers activities for all ages, according to a community announcement. The gathering is organized by Adventure Ink in collaboration with Whimsical Sprites and transforms the downtown area into a fan-focused experience
Admission costs $10 per person, while children 10 and younger can enter for free
Gaming demos, vendors and artist showcases planned
Attendees can explore a developer room where indie creators, students and educators will demonstrate original games and discuss the development process. Fans of competitive gaming can also participate in Super Smash Bros. Melee friendly matches hosted by the Milan Community Arcade
A vendor room will feature merchandise and collectibles from local and independent sellers, with some offering free items or activities, according to the announcement. Nearby, Artist Alley will stretch along Main Street and into Tolan Square, highlighting creators selling crocheted toys, kandi accessories, artwork and signed books
Cosplay contest, food and hands-on activities
Visitors are encouraged to attend in costume and can join a cosplay contest by visiting a portrait photobooth provided by Luck & Light Photography. The event prohibits both prop and real weapons
Hungry Howie’s will be available for food, while interactive experiences include a dinosaur dig where participants can search for fossils and take home three discoveries. Live action roleplaying demonstrations will also be offered by KaNaR, Carps and Shifted Lands, allowing participants to experience medieval-style combat scenarios
Quiet space offered among high-energy attractions
Organizers noted the inclusion of a sensory room inside The Bridge, providing a quiet space for attendees who need a break from stimulation and heat. Activities in the space include coloring pages and painting
