New NARUTO projects have been announced, including NARUTO SHADOW RISING, a new manga by series creator Masashi Kishimoto, and NARUTO × NINKŪ, an entirely new anime collaboration with NINKU.

NARUTO SHADOW RISING Revealed in Announcement Video

The video announcing the new manga shows manga storyboards featuring the four former members of Team 7 in succession: Naruto holding up the Hokage’s hat, Kakashi smiling broadly, Sasuke standing resolutely, and Sakura gazing lovingly at a baby. It also depicts Naruto and Sasuke clashing. The video then shows the stone faces of the six previous Hokage watching over the Hidden Leaf Village, with a seventh face under construction, before finally announcing the new manga, NARUTO SHADOW RISING.

Further details will be announced at Jum

New NARUTO × NINKŪ Anime to Consist of Four Episodes

The new anime collaboration with NINKŪ will consist of four episodes. The project came about because NARUTO creator Masashi Kishimoto wanted to see the story of NINKŪ continue and obtained permission from its creator, Koji Kiriyama.

Expressing his delight, Kishimoto said, “Without NINKŪ, NARUTO would not exist. I drew NARUTO because I wanted to see more of NINKŪ. My dream has come true.”
A video has also been released. Kishimoto and Kiriyama will supervise the story of all four episodes, in which a young Naruto wanders into the world of NINKŪ during a mission. The original story follows Naruto and his fellow Team 7 members as they encounter NINKŪ protagonist Fūsuke and his companions.

Introduction to the New NARUTO × NINKŪ Anime

“Time to head out on my unforgettable mission, believe it!”

Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura of Team 7 are entrusted with a mission by Kakashi. With Kakashi occupied elsewhere, Naruto is appointed acting team leader in his place. Naruto sets off enthusiastically, eager to carry out the mission as acting leader. Along the way, however, the three wander into another world.

Appearing before the bewildered Naruto and his teammates is Fūsuke, a boy with a face resembling a frog’s. What trials await them in this other world? In an entirely new NARUTO × NINKŪ story supervised by Koji Kiriyama and Masashi Kishimoto, two legendary series now come together!

Full Comment from Koji Kiriyama, Creator of NINKŪ

The world of Naruto and his friends and the world of Fūsuke and his friends will meet and intersect! I am truly very excited about it. This “miracle” has come about thanks to Kishimoto’s proposal and generosity. He has such a deep understanding and appreciation of the world of NINKŪ, and I feel very honored.

The adventures of Naruto, Fūsuke, and their friends are just about to begin. Please look forward to them with excitement and anticipation, along with us, the creators!

Full Comment from Masashi Kishimoto, Creator of NARUTO

I drew NARUTO because I wanted to see the continuation of NINKŪ. I imagine many of you have already noticed, but NARUTO was born under the tremendous influence of NINKŪ.

Without NINKŪ, NARUTO would not exist. In other words, Fūsuke is Naruto’s mentor behind the scenes. At some point, I began dreaming of depicting this relationship between mentor and student within an actual work, bringing it out from behind the scenes.

Kiriyama, who is a mentor to me just as Fūsuke is to Naruto, graciously agreed to this selfish request. We also met in person, and with his extensive cooperation, my dream came true. At last, I was able to create “a continuation in the truest sense.” There are four episodes in total! Please enjoy them to the very end!

Full Comment from Rica Matsumoto, Voice of Fūsuke

The NINKŪ television anime began about 30 years ago. After all this time, the joy of seeing Fūsuke and his friends moving around so energetically again, together with reuniting with the original cast from back then, has been deeply moving.

It makes me feel so glad that I have kept working hard in this industry all these years. At the same time, I am sincerely grateful to everyone involved who made this wonderful project possible.

I think this work is filled with messages that we need precisely because of the times we live in. Whether you watched it as a child or are seeing it for the first time, I would be delighted if you had a fantastic time watching the NARUTO × NINKŪ crossover anime.

Full Comment from Junko Takeuchi, Voice of Naruto Uzumaki

Naruto and his friends from their younger days are appearing! To think I get to go on another mission with Sasuke and Sakura. I could not be more moved. Sasuke is on our side. How precious that period is…

And! This time, it is a crossover! We will be carrying out a mission alongside Fūsuke and his friends from none other than NINKŪ! You will see that technique. And that expression, too. I guarantee that everyone who loves NINKŪ will enjoy it! Please be sure to watch!
