After nearly 20 years of solving television crimes, detective William Murdoch of the Toronto Constabulary is taking his investigative techniques to the comic book page. The series will be with art and colors by Jason Loo and lettering by Andrew Thomas. No publisher for the series has yet been announced
Murdoch Mysteries, the TV show, first premiered in January 2008 and over its twenty seasons has been regarded as one of the enduring successes of the Canadian Broadcasting Production. The series follows Yannick Bisson as the titular William Murdoch, a police detective in the late 19th century. The procedural follows the heart-throb detective as he solves the murder of the week with an artillery of anachronistic investigative techniques and a mind as sharp as a tack. In its tenure, the series has accumulated 14 wins across the Canadian Screen Awards, the Gemini Awards, and the Directors Guild of Canada, as well as a guest appearance by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
So it only makes sense now that this national Canadian treasure would make his way onto the comic book page from an all-star, all-Canadian creative team. Entitled simply Murdoch Mysteries, this new comic series promises to offer the same crimesolving, swash-buckling adventures that have captured Canadian audiences on the small screen for the past two decades. The artwork shows the detective embroiled in high-flying shenanigans featuring guns, knives and high-speed trains (oh my!). Without the limited budget of network television to hinder his investigations, this new comic promises to go bigger than the TV show has ever managed to be before.
