One 12-year-old Regina boy is locked in a continent-wide battle to become the next legendary comic book icon.
Tony Dubois is hoping to become Stan Lee’s Super Kid, a competition held across North America and open to children aged 5-17. The one with the most votes wins, and currently Dubois is first in his group.
His dad John Dubois saw the competition while scrolling on Facebook and showed his son.
“I just thought, ‘probably not going to get that far and probably not gonna win, but hey, worth a shot. We ain’t got nothing to lose’,” said Tony.
Tony was also interested because it’s not a thing he gets to do everyday.
“It’s just like intriguing to me that this contest was even available for someone of my age and someone with my disability,” said Tony.
He has cerebral palsy, which affects his motor skills and mobility.
“My legs require more support to keep myself steady, and I have to wear leg braces to stabilize my balance,” Tony said.
John went ahead and entered him into the competition.
“We just started snowballing. We just kept climbing and climbing. And then when we got to the top 10, it was wow. I started looking into whether or not this contest is actually legit,” said John.
“It’s the first contest of its kind. So he could be the first winner, and it is legit.”

Tony said he was shocked by just how high he was climbing on the rankings.
“We were like 75th when we first started, then climbed up to 50th, then 30th, then it was top 20, and then placed 19th. And then out of nowhere I ended up getting like 5th,” said Tony.
If Tony wins, he will be able to transform into his own superhero identity, star in a new Stan Lee Universe comic book, and take home $25,000 US.
Tony would also be able to go to the 2027 Comic Con in Los Angeles, which he, his dad, brother and brother’s girlfriend would attend if he were to win.
Though John is most excited about the comic book.
“It would be something I would cherish for the rest of my life … Something that wouldn’t get wrecked ever,” John said.
Tony already decided what his character’s powers would be.
“Well, telekinesis I could use for multiple reasons to kind of have my character move around, kind of like stop things like projectiles and like fires and things like that,” said Tony.
“And for time manipulation, I would kind of say to stop things like accidents, save some lives, And overall, they’d just be amazing to have these powers in real life.”

Some of Tony’s favourite superheroes are Batman, X-Men and Spider-Man.
“They’ve inspired why I try to like kind of see the good inside of people, even though some people are just overall terrible, terrible people,” said Tony.
Voting for the competition ends Nov. 19 and Dubois is hoping to win and become the next Stan Lee superhero.
“It would mean the world to me as I’ve honestly wanted to since I was a little boy.”
