Marvel Television has announced a new series called ‘Zodiac’. Brad Winderbaum, Head of Marvel Television, Animation, Comics and Franchise, revealed it at the Marvel panel at New York Comic Con. The show will premiere on Disney+ in 2028.
Winderbaum called it a global spy thriller. A Variety report describes it as a live-action series.
Filming and casting plans
Production starts next year. Zodiac begins shooting in London in spring 2027.
Casting will begin soon. Winderbaum said casting starts in the next couple of weeks. No cast, writers or plot details have been announced. The creative team has not been revealed.
Marvel Studios showed the first official logo for the series. Winderbaum said the title design holds hints for comic fans. He told the crowd he could not share more because it is a secret.
The comic book Zodiac
The name comes from Marvel Comics. Zodiac is a supervillain group created by Roy Thomas and Sal Buscema. The team first appeared in The Avengers #72 in January 1970.
The comic team has twelve superpowered members, each themed around a sign of the Western zodiac. Another version involved a mysterious villain using the Zodiac name during the Dark Reign storyline. Marvel has not said which version the series will use.
Earlier leaks
The series was reported before the panel. News of the project leaked in September. Those reports described an episodic show in the style of The X-Files.
The leaks said it would be led by two to three characters new to the MCU. They also said it would carry a TV-MA rating and allow established MCU characters to make guest appearances.
The same leaker also predicted the announcement at the convention. Marvel has not confirmed the leaked details.
Where it fits in the Marvel schedule
Zodiac arrives in 2028, the year after Avengers: Secret Wars. Marvel places it in Phase 7 alongside films such as X-Men, Ghost Rider and Black Panther III.
The new direction favors series that connect less to the feature films and use fewer major heroes.
Three more ‘Marvel Zombies’ specials
Marvel announced more animated content at the same event. Winderbaum revealed three two-part Marvel Zombies specials over the next three years.
– The Winter Soldier arrives in 2027.
– The Fist of Khonshu follows in 2028.
– The Last Guardian closes the run in 2029.
Many basic details are missing. Marvel has not named a lead actor, a head writer or a director. It has not given a premiere month. It has not confirmed the episode count or the show’s rating, yet.
