Team17 is developing The Escapists 3 for Nintendo Switch 2, the company just revealed. For now there’s no word on launch timing.

The Escapists 3 is a prison escape sandbox, which can be played alone or with friends. This time around, there’s a new 3D prison to navigate.

Lots of details about the project can be found in the following overview:

Learn the routine and watch the guards, take jobs and earn cash, swipe whatever isn’t nailed down and turn everyday junk into the beginnings of an escape plan.

The Escapists 3 is a prison escape sandbox where you can dig, sneak, climb, fight, disguise yourself and improvise your way to freedom. Alone or with friends.

Every prison is a system waiting to be understood, exploited and very badly outsmarted.

Study the schedule, find the weak points and work out your own route to freedom. Dig beneath the walls, climb your way out or find another route entirely. And getting beyond the perimeter might only be the beginning.

There’s no single solution, just good plans, bad plans and the occasional plan involving molten chocolate.

Search cells, trade with inmates and complete jobs to get your hands on supplies.

120+ items and weapons to loot and craft, almost anything can become part of an escape plan. Whether it should…that’s another question.

FIVE PRISONS. PLENTY OF BAD IDEAS.

Break out of five distinctive prisons, each with its own routines, characters, secrets and once you have snuck past the guards discover what waits for you beyond the walls. Lose yourself in dense forests, climb across gusty canyons, explore ancient catacombs and find your way across dangerous waters.

Learn how each one works. Find the cracks in the system. Then convince yourself you’ve finally come up with the perfect way out.

Earn XP as you play, unlock new skills and tailor your inmate to the way you want to escape. Develop different strengths, unlock new gameplay options and take what you’ve learned from one prison into the next.

While you’re at it, why not go full Stockholm Syndrome and customise your cell?

Try and escape solo or team up with friends. Play with two players in local split-screen, or take your escape online with up to four. Divide the jobs, play to each other’s strengths, coordinate the timing and execute the perfect prison break… and discover which of your friends is useless with a shovel.

Continue on below for the title’s debut trailer.
