Comic Con marks 20 years with big-name guests

NEW YORK CITY –New York Comic Con is back at the Javits Center this weekend, drawing crowds of fans in elaborate costumes as the event celebrates its 20th anniversary.
Superheroes and villains, princesses and a Corpse Bride, dungeon crawlers and zombie inmates filled the convention as attendees showcased cosplay creations inspired by popular characters from comics, television, film and gaming.
Organizers said the milestone year is bringing an expanded celebration for fans.
Fallon Prinzivalli, marketing director at ReedPop, the organization behind the event, said the convention is marking its 20th anniversary with elements inspired by another New York institution, Coney Island.
This year’s guests of honor include Hayden Christensen, Idina Menzel, Nicolas Cage, Rosario Dawson, Sebastian Stan and William Shatner.
In Artist Alley, creators behind fan-favorite characters spent time sketching, signing autographs and meeting attendees who grew up with their work.
The convention also features panel discussions where some of the biggest names in television and film are expected to share first looks and surprises with fans.
The annual event continues through the weekend at the Javits Center, attracting visitors from near and far as New York Comic Con celebrates two decades of fandom and pop culture.
