Dr. Crusher’s new adventure is set betweenStar Trek: NemesisandPicard.
Star Trek: The Next Generation’s beloved Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) last appeared on screen during the emotional series finale of Picard, “The Last Generation,” back in 2023. However, the iconic character is officially set to return in IDW’s upcoming comic bookrun, Crusher, which will be available sometime during the summer of 2027.
Star Trek fans can check out the cover art for Crusher below, courtesy of IDW’s Instagram account.
Now, while Star Trek fans would prefer Dr. Crusher to return in a live-action film, television series, or streaming show, it’s encouraging to learn that McFadden herself is writing the limited comic book series, which is being drawn by Strange New Worlds: The Illyrian Enigma (2022-2023) illustrator Megan Levens.
McFadden addressed her first foray into writing a Star Trek comic book by saying (per Variety): “It’s such an honor to return to Starfleet and expand Beverly Crusher’s storyline in a whole new way. I’ve spent years bringing the words of other great writers to life in Beverly’s shoes.”
McFadeen continued by saying: “So, it’s inspiring and thrilling to now be the one scripting a new chapter in this fabulous character’s saga. I’m excited for Star Trek fans to read this comic and I’m so grateful for their continued support.”
I, like others, would prefer this would have been an announcement celebrating McFadden’s return as Crusher in a live-action setting, but there’s never been a better time for the talented actress to try her hand at crafting a comic book series. After all, WEBTOON is currently in the midst of releasing weekly installments of their must-read Star Trek YA webcomics Stargazers and Recollection.
Plus, to celebrate the spookiest of all seasons, Star Trek readers can pacify their anticipation for Crusher’s return by picking up the first issue of Holo-ween II, which drops on Wednesday, Oct. 7, and features virtually Deep Space Nine’sentire cast of characters, including my personal favorites: Worf, Odo, and, yes, Jadzia Dax.
So, are you exited to learn about Gates McFadden’s upcoming Crusher comic book series? Or would you have preferred the popular character just return in a live-action format? Share your thoughts and comments with us on the Redshirts Always Die Facebook and X pages.
Live long and prosper, Trekkies!
