A Massachusetts man has admitted to importing plutonium from Russia and selling radioactive materials through an online business, according to federal prosecutors. Authorities say the case involved dangerous substances shipped to customers across the United States and abroad, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Jacob D. Miller, 44, pleaded guilty to several federal charges, including importing nuclear material without lawful authority, mailing hazardous materials and possessing child pornography, prosecutors announced. Officials said Miller operated a business called Collect The Periodic Table from his South Hadley home.
According to court records, Miller imported plutonium from Russia and had it shipped to Massachusetts, CBS Boston said. Prosecutors said he later sold samples of plutonium and other chemical elements through his company and through the online marketplace Bonanza.
Federal authorities said Miller sold plutonium to about 67 customers between late 2020 and early 2025. They also said he sold thallium, a highly toxic metal, to dozens of customers. Prosecutors noted that plutonium is considered a hazardous substance and is not allowed to be mailed through the U.S. Postal Service.
Investigators searched Miller’s home in April 2025 and reported finding explosive materials, ammunition and firearms, NBC News reported. Authorities also said they found child sexual abuse material on electronic devices. Miller has been in federal custody since his arrest in April 2025. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 21, 2027.
