Damian Lau has sparked concern about his health again after he was seen at a cinema in Hong Kong recently.
In a video posted on social media on Oct 4, the veteran Hong Kong actor, who turns 77 on this month, is seen holding a cane to support himself as he slowly walks into the cinema. His right hand appears to be immobile.
Another video taken on the same day shows him talking to a woman as they hug for a moment.
Damian looked to be in good spirits in both videos.
A few netizens speculated from his gait that he may have suffered a stroke, while others were just glad he looked radiant despite his condition and wished him well.
One of them commented: “Wishing Damian the best of health and happiness, we have always liked and supported you.”
Damian, who is known for playing roles including Luk Siu Fung in the Hong Kong drama of the same name in 1976, Emperor Kangxi in Chinese drama Scarlet Heart (2011) and local drama Dream Makers II (2015), was rumoured to have suffered a stroke and in ill health since he was seen using a walking stick in 2020.
His actress friend Michelle Yim clarified at the time that he had fallen and injured himself while preparing for his stage play and he didn’t have a stroke, according to a report by HK01.
Despite that, Damian told media in 2024 while promoting a musical that he saw “no need to refute or clarify these unsubstantiated reports” and announced his retirement from the entertainment industry that April after the final show.
According to a report by China Press in August this year, he was seen struggling to walk unaided at an event in Shenzhen, China, and had to be supported to the guest seating area.
